T5 2009 2.5 bnz issues

I’m away in my other van and my mate is running our Velle to keep her fresh.

Got this from him;

Can anyone assist with this issue developed on a 2009 BNZ 2.5 diesel.

It’s struggling with mid range boost and pauses before full boost kicks in on high revs.

During that pause the glow plug light starts flashing which is P2237 (O2 sensor bank 1,sensor 1).

The code clears on restart as it’s not present.

Eventually the EML comes on also which is P2279 (inlake air leak) which is present.

I’ve checked over all turbo hoses, intercooler and vacuum hoses and all looks ok.

I’m assuming given the turbo is working, the waste gates are operating prematurely hence the pause which is indicating high o2 levels in the exhaust gases hence P2237.

I’ve read MAP, PCD diaphragms or N75 are problematic.

Any ideas would be very much appreciated.

Ps moo valve was new a couple years back.

Hi there,

Sounds like you're on the right track with those sensors. Covering all the bases. We have a 2006 BNZ.

I'm no expert, often what happens is its extremely difficult to pin down a particular thing as often 1 problem masks others endlessly, but will chip in a few more ideas:

-EGR/DPF considerations, still running them or been removed? Either could be choked up, and causing increased back pressure which will cause problems. If removed then move on...
-You mention waste gate operating prematurely, turbo actuator? It could wrong instructions to it as you say, is it original though? It could physically be struggling to operate, please see link below
-fuel filter often overlooked

Lastly, the intake air leak fault code you mention could be intake pressure sensor, that's a cheap and easy fix to try (in comparison to throwing large expensive parts at it instead!)

In addition, have a read of this thread re Turbo actuator

Hope you figure it

Ben

Ah many thanks totally forgot to come back and clear up the solution.

Went to a friends garage (ex VW mastertech) who I have used for a long time on all my vans so someone I trust

Was the intercooler. Not had an issues since and performs like she should.

Also needed bushes and blah blah which I knew about as lunged to the right on accelerating and to the left on lifting off. All in about £900
