Calibre CC-U 20" T32 Wheel Load Rating Or Not

Hi
I am new to this site so apologies if this is posted in the wrong section etc.
I have recently purchased a 2018 T32, 150bhp.
The wheel fitted are Calibre CC-U 20"
I am concerned that these are not correctly load rated for the vehicle.
All sites I have checked are saying these are 815kg rated and not 860kg as required by the rear axle weight.
I have contacted the vehicle supplier but no response as yet.
Can anyone confirm if these are available 860kg or above.

First of all, welcome to the forum, and i'm sure this will get moved into the correct section at some point, so don't worry.

Wheel ratings is one of the most debated subjects on here, and the 'Search' box will answer any ratings questions posed.
As for your Calibre wheels, no they aren't rated high enough for a T32, and this is an issue that's been seen dozens of times with new vehicle purchases.
I'm not sure if this was a main dealer purchase, but bare in mind that with a short battle and the correct wording, the dealer will almost always rectify the situation, but also bare in mind that the rectification might well be them changing your 20's for a set of standard 17" factory fit wheels. In other words, if you purchased your T6 because it looked amazing on 20" wheels, this might soon be changed, depending on the outcome.

Now, the controversial part of this hot debate. It's your vehicle and you are aware the wheels are not rated high enough. This could have an effect on any future insurance claim, MOT failure, warranty issue etc etc. (although i'm yet to read of any real examples)
However, many people make the choice to ignore these facts and still run under-rated wheels and tyres at their own risk. Take my T6 for example: I run the correct rated tyres, but they are fitted to a set of Banded steel wheels. These wheels have their own risks, but i'm aware of this and I choose to run these wheels anyway.
I obviously don't in any way condone the use of anything incorrect, but many people run commercials with this exact conundrum.

Lastly, should you go down the option of changing these wheels for a the correctly rated set, you will quickly find it's not an easy task, but there are some nice wheels in 20" around.

Good luck.

And there you go, moved into the correct section faster than I could type your reply

Someones had their breakfast.

Many thanks.
The T6 was supplied by Leighton Vans, the wheels were advertised on the website, yes I like the cosmetic look of them but they were not the deciding factor that made me plum for the van. Therefore I hope they will simply change for similar correctly rated wheels, I have covered Approx 250miles in the van. I would expect the onus to be on the seller, especially as they are "specialists" there words, to ensure ALL equipment fitted to be legal. Plus having paid so much, plus VAT, I would hope they wouldn't just refit standard wheels. If the standard wheels were fitted when advertised I would have changed them without a doubt. I have, up to now, emailed twice and await a response. I will see what happens and post.

Cheers

I’d give Leighton Vans a call. I’ve found them very helpful, and I’m sure that they will want to get this rectified for you! A great outcome would be swapping to some of the new Leighton wheels, which look great, and my understanding is that they’re fully load rated...!

Many thanks.

As mentioned above, they are likely to rectify this situation for you without too much hassle hopefully. I haven't ever used Leighton vans myself, but haven't heard of any issues with these guys, and the likelihood is as it's almost Christmas, things start to slow down with responses. I'm sure it will be pretty straight forward once you actually get hold of the right person, but please let us know the outcome.

I have had a response regarding swapping the wheels, they are going to swap. I have nothing but praise for the team to date. Expertly handled when purchasing the van. The new LV wheels do look smart, but a cost?

As in a reply in the last hour or so?

Yes couple of hours ago. Tempted to get a price for the LV 1 Wheels???

Good result. One wonders if maybe they have someone watching for issues like this on places like this, as it's very convenient that you had no response, to then get one a couple of hours after posting on here. Probably just coincidence.

As for them swapping for a chosen load rated set, i'm sure they will be fair.

Excellent result. They have agreed to change, plus I have got, to me what is an excellent deal for the LV1's at a small cost to me. More than happy with the result. Well done LV.
Just need to revisit them to get them fitted. looking forward to the drive to put some miles on the van.

The T32 is a class 7 MOT classification (Van over the 3000KG);
Class 7 MOTs are for commercial vehicles weighing 3,000kg to 3,500kg. Cars and smaller vans require a Class 4 MOT. The MOT tests for both Class 4 and Class 7 vehicles are mostly the same, however Class 7 MOTs allow for heavier vehicles.

So yep a definite breach/failure; regardless of the actual axel load (being less than than wheel capacity) as I understand it.

Good result

I have the same issue here the same Calibre wheel with a T32. My vehicle was supplied by Salop Vans. I will be contacting them tomorrow. Hoping for the same level of service as LV.

Wessex Vans sold me the correct wheels, 860kg rated, but only 815kg rated tyres on them.

Buying from an ‘established’ dealer is no guarantee of compliance, do your own research and don’t rely on a dealer knowing his arse from his elbow.

Sadly, it’s not just dealers who get it wrong. I’ve had one case of a UK distributor telling me that wheels are T32 load rated, but having doubted them and checked with the manufacturer directly, it was confirmed that several of the styles offered were only actually 815kg rated!

Contacted Salop Vans today and have offered to refund the cost of the wheels once I have swapped them for the Judd T311R 20s i'm hoping to get.
