Strengthening the back of rear seats

Hi All,

I have a factory kombi, I use a forty winkys bed which uses the rear seats folded down. Amazing setup.

While moving around in the van I end up sitting on the seats once they are folded and notice a drop, as if the rear of the seat broke... has anyone ever seen what’s inside the seats? I am going to get them covered in a few weeks, but wanted to know if I can make the backs stronger somehow. Has anyone done this?

I’ve searched online and can’t find what the seat looks like when the fabric is stripped off!

I also have a factory Kombi. Did same as you and also think the back of the rear seat broke when I put a slight weight on it. Don't know how to make it stronger. I now just put a piece of 18mm thick ply on top of it when it's folded to stop any more damage.
