Stabilisation Control - (ESC) Error

Hi all,
I have recently had an error pop up on my MFD stating Error: stabilization control (ESC), along with an amber Engine Management light (the one that looks like this:)
Engine Mgmt.PNG
As a bit of background, I have recently had a tow bar and full 13-pin VSK electrics fitted, and this error appeared a couple of days after. I don't have VCDS or Carista, so at this stage cannot get any more 'meaningful' information. So I think my questions are:

1. Could the tow bar and electrics work have contributed to this? Thinking perhaps something has been 'knocked' when connecting the electrics to the battery? Or perhaps the battery had to be fully disconnected during the install which may have screwed things up?

2. Would investing in a Carista be beneficial in getting more info here? Or is it a full VCDS job? (not that I am willing to buy one, just might force a trip to the garage).

3. Any other obvious things I can check? I'd read a forum comment about turning the wheel lock fully clockwise and then fully anti-clockwise which I will try later. I have driven the van 20 miles since the error appeared and it hasn't cleared on its own.

4. Finally, if I do need to take it to a garage, any recommendations in the Staffs (Lichfield, Burton, Stafford, Stoke) area?

Thanks in advance for your comments :)

Ok so the ESC error seems to have disappeared from the MFD by itself, but still have the amber Engine Management light.

Plugged in the Carista today, showing 9 errors. Here is the detailed ECU report:

What is the best way of approaching this? Is it worthwhile clearing all errors, driving the vehicle and then rescanning to see what shows? Or is that pointless and will just show the same errors?

Sorry also had this show in the initial diagnostics:

Basic OBD2:
P040B (pending) (confirmed) - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Temperature Sensor "A" Circuit Range/Performance
P2457 (pending) (confirmed) - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Cooling System Performance

Realised this should probably sit in the Vehicle Faults sub-thread. Could an admin/mod please move it? :)

Love this forum, such a wealth of knowledge and experience here! Apologies for all the posts on this thread, may be useful to someone doing the exact same searches I am doing at the moment.

Having trawled through the different postings about Carista errors, I *think* I have identified the following:

(Engine) 25796 Manufacturer-specific code + (Battery Regulator) 02252 Generator = Appear to be linked with the Stop/Start errors that I have had on the van since getting it. Will look into these and try the various things (fully charge the battery, check the LIN wiring for breakage etc).

(Instrument Cluster) 13654544 Manufacturer-specific code + (CAN Network Gateway) 03158 Control Module for Information Electronics 1 (J794) = Appear to be linked with the fact I have replaced the VW headunit with a Pioneer SPH-EVO64DAB. Think I have to get this cleared using VCDS(?)

(ABS) 00288 Steering Column Lock Actuator (N360) = Could be linked to the original ESC stabilization error I had (which has since gone). Suspect I should clear this fault and see if it re-appears.

So I think that just leaves the following, which I can't get to the bottom of yet:

Basic OBD2:
P040B (pending) (confirmed) - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Temperature Sensor "A" Circuit Range/Performance
P2457 (pending) (confirmed) - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Cooling System Performance

Engine
Part #: 04L906056KG

ASAM/ODX identifier: EV_ECM20TDI03004L906056KG
Coding: 00254014432501090000 (hex)
Fault codes:
32807 Manufacturer-specific code
27080 Manufacturer-specific code

Think I will clear all the errors using Carista (I know the Pioneer related ones won't clear), and then see what I am left with. Might help with chasing descriptions on error codes that are no longer there. I do still have the engine management light on the dash, which concerns me

32807 = P2457 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation System - Insufficient Cooling Performance
I have doubts about code 27080 being correct. Carista seems quite often mess the codes, especially the manufacturer specific ones Most likely it's the counterpart of the P040B.

Code 00288 in the ABS doesn't make sense. Perhaps instead actual ABS code 0288 - Steering angle sensor - Mechanical Failure

Thanks, Yeah I couldn’t find anything relating to 27080. Makes sense it’s linked to P040B.

Any ideas on cause/resolution to the P errors?

I’m going to clear all codes in the morning and take it for a drive before re-reading with Carista to see what’s left

Would probably be easy to pinpoint with VCDS ;)

Anyways, a guess based on

P040B - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Temperature Sensor "A" Circuit Range/Performance - actually it is "Implausible signal", which means the values reported are not what's expected.
AND
P2457 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation System - Insufficient Cooling Performance

I'd expect these two to be related because the EGR cooler has temperature sensors before and after.

Perhaps time to take advantage of the VIP membership benefits

And look into what EGR cooler sensors report - IDE04035 EGRTemp 11/12: 182/42 °C

Thanks @mmi much appreciated

So, I did a bit more research on the P codes, and one suggestion was pointing towards coolant levels. Checked the level and it was on the minimum line (note, no messages on MFD stating coolant level low). For completeness, topped up to the max line level indicator.

Took it for a drive, plugged in Carista and cleared all faults (as suspected, some wouldn’t clear….start/stop and Pioneer swap errors). Took it for another drive and re-read codes:

Looks MUCH better! As suspected, looks like the only errors I am left with are related to known issues/changes.

Will drive for a few days and re-run the Carista app to make sure these errors don’t appear again.

Fingers crossed! Now just need to tackle that pesky Stop/Start problem, and code out the OEM headunit when I come across someone with a VCDS.
