Spare wheel protection

How do other members protect there spare tyres underneath the vehicle from the hub rusting. Do you wrap it in anything or just apply a coating of under shield for protection

I was about to click 'Watch' on this thread until I realised you wanted to discuss molly-coddling your spare wheel rather then preventing it from being nicked.:uh run:

The reason I’m Molly coddling the spare wheel, as it’s that bit of rubber and hub that gets you to where you want to go if you have a flat. You obviously live in an area of undesirable people.

For protection from theft, @Bav you may be interested in something like this:

For protection from the elements, I wonder if something like ACF 50 would be a good option? (Not on the tyre!)

If you cannot be polite when someone asks a question on this site then take your sarcastic comments somewhere else where you may be welcomed.
Let me apologies for my mildly sarcastic opening comment, which has obviously caused you great offence. That was not my intention - it was merely a feeble attempt at humour that noted your ambiguous thread title resulted in the content not meeting my expectation.

I am aware that your response was intended to offend, but I chose not to be and responded with a flippant comment, thus irritating you further. Again, I offer my apologies for this and hope there is no ill feeling between us.

Thank you Bav for your apology and do not have any ill feeling towards you. I would just like to say, I know the question may be slightly ambiguous but I have been trying to research results myself before reaching out to the transporter community to see if anyone has any better ideas. This site has some clever members who are always able to give you great advice to get you out of a fix.

The steel spare will rust under the van. I apply a thick grease coat to the contact points; bolt taper seats and centre spigot. Just be sure to wipe it off before using the wheel.

The forum does indeed contain a wealth of knowledge and experience, both of which are shared freely and willingly. The forum also contains a lot of humour, some of which is feeble  and some of which is acerbic, but rarely offensive - at least not intentionally so - and if anyone steps out of line, the mods will swiftly intervene. Enjoy and I'll see you around, no doubt.

Strangely I find the subjects of protecting your spare wheel from theft and keeping it looking nice are actually very much linked.
I've got a very functional but very rusty / dirty steel spare wheel with a tyre with about 2mm of tread. It has almost no resale value.
And I've therefore got no security in place for it, apart from the van sleeps in a secure alarmed building at night.
I don't believe I need a spare that looks nice, it just has to work if I need it to. I check the pressure every six months.

This is starting to resemble filter lane behaviour: waving in rear view mirrors, flashing high beam and the obligatory return flash of the hazard lights. Fkin hard work just to get to the next set of traffic lights.

Love it :mexican wave:Do we have a woke / playground section within the forum ?

That’s a tough one  By stopping them, you may impact their wellbeing. I’d be inclined to join them… Any spare seats?

Yep! It’s the “safe space seat” where a passenger can sit if they feel triggered!
