Hello....does a 120w solar panel connected via a Victron Smartsolar Mppt 75-15 to a VW factory fitted leisure battery, have to be disconnected if I want to start the engine? Cheers.

No pics......portable folding panel used on roof rack if camping off power for a couple of weeks, to run fridge.
Plugged into leisure battery's top dashboard 12v socket.
So if the starter battery needs a top up, I can leave solar connected and top up starter with alternator, without disconnecting.?

essentially yes, so can leave it connected and the solar controller will detect the alternator charging voltage and disable its output while the engine is running.

120watt folding panel, Victron Smartsolar MPPT 75-15 Controller....thank you for that....I thought so but wasn't sure.

yeh thats all fine . .
just follow the MPPT instructions regarding the connection / disconnection order.
battery connection ON first.
and
OFF last.
(PV connection in between)
(the solar controller can be damaged if its left connected to PV panels with no battery attached)
