I’ve trawled through a number of threads on here re. leisure battery charging. I think I’ve decided:
- it’s a good idea to be able to hook up your leisure battery to mains when on a campsite (won’t run out after 2-3 days)
- better to fit a mains battery charger than plug in my fridge direct (has a mains lead option) which is the main current draw (in the boot, means leaving tailgate open to feed mains feed in, and obvs this doesn’t then provide for other leisure circuit devices.
So… I’ve found the Victron IP65 12/15 which people seem to like. I could permanently fit this to my leisure battery (under driver’s seat) but this leaves two questions:
1. Where to site the charger? Side of driver’s seat exposed? Under passenger seat (would it heat up too much, and how long are the cables & would they reach the driver’s seat?)
2. How do I get the mains into the van? All sort of options here, my favourite is the under the bonnet fix, but for something truly simple, I could just pass the mains feed through the passenger window, which I generally leave open a smidgeon anyway for air. I already have a commando to 4-gang uk cable.
Oh and a 3rd… would I need any onboard circuits breaker for this? Threads on here suggest the campsite feed already provides this. So just mains cable through window, plug in charger, done?
Thanks
Will
