Selling Alloys - refurb before sale or sell as-is?

Hi all,

Having moved from 20s to 18s to suit the Cornish road surface, I have a set of used alloys to move on. They are all a bit graunched around the rims from contact with the curb, and the surface is a bit pitted here and there. No major damage, and no reason not to get lots more use, just not cosmetically great at the moment.
I've had a search through the ads, and not really seen anything comparable to use as a guide.
Is there any value in them as is? Is it worth getting a refurb done first? They're a big old stack of wheels I'd like to move on, so any suggestions would be welcome. Hampshire/Sussex or Cornwall based if it helps. Thanks.

I'm guessing you didn't like them? 🤕
Normally I would say cut your losses and sell "as is" but they look like they've had an hard life so you'll get low balled.

Actually, I did like the look of them, they were great on the van, for looks, and really nice driving around Hampshire and Sussex- after my T4 I couldn't believe how flat and smooth the T6 went through corners.

But I'm mainly based way out West in Cornwall now, and have made the move to 18" alloys with 235/55 tires. It's not so planted on the motorway, but kinder in the potholes and gravelly bits.

To be honest, I'm okay with a "low-ish ball", I'd factored in making the change when I bought the van, so more keen to get them moved on than to hunt the pennies.

*Edit - just re-read your comment with the emojis, and caught on! Well, yes, I did injure one of them, but they were already in a bit of a state when I got the van.*

Presumably you’d sell on this Forum if they had been refurbed and now the pre-furb’ state is broadcast.
IMO once the salt has penetrated the alloy it’s hard to neutralise. Personally I don’t see how it can be legal to remove material from a wheel but that’s what people do.
There will be somebody hell bent on 20” wheels without much free £, IMO better to sell as they are instead of shelling out more £ with no guarantee you’ll get in back.
Those wheels are actually pretty good by West Cornwall standard, even better if you have one on each corner!

Without being rude they're not worth very much at all as they are ..
If you can get a cheap refurb to make them more presentable then it might be worth it but I wouldn't go throwing too much at them cuz you might not make it back the other end .

Thanks All, they've headed to Ebay on a fairly cheap price to move them on. As several of you suggest - if I refurb, I could end up spending a bit, then having to wait around to find the right buyer.
