Hi all, my son has recently passed his driving test and bought a nice Ibiza as his first car. He’s been at work today and left his lights on so had to call me when he finished work as his battery was flat. Is it easy to rewire the headlight switch so that the lights go on and off with ignition?

Canbus style vehicle wiring is pretty complex - I’d leave well alone!

Most modern vehicles have buzzers / bongs for lights on / key in ignition when the door opens

Yeah surely this 'should' have a warning buzzer to avoid such issues , maybe this is worth exploring/rectifying first before looking to alter anything.

Warning buzzer and/or a jump pack.

In those cars, if you leave the headlight switch in the dipped position, the side lights stay on when you take the key out. It may be possible to code it so that in the dipped position all lights turn off, but still retain the parking light function in the 'side' light position or with the indicator stalk like many other VAG cars. I'll have a look on our Polo when I get a chance.

left his lights on
I guess it was just side ligths.
You could check if you could utilise the T6 vtweak below
Yes, it's T6 but Ibiza of that era is electrically the same as VW Polo - which is electrically the same as T5.1, which is almost the as T6. All of them having PQ25 family of BCM.

I was thinking about this whilst driving around today. I'm sure we are all guilty of this from time to time as parents, but why do we feel the need to do things to negate the mistakes that our kids make? They'll never learn to take responsibility for their actions or be able to do things for themselves if we carry on doing all the thinking for them.
