Satnav Options

As i've mentioned previously, my Caravelle's VW head unit has everything but SatNav. I know everyone has their own opinions on things like Waze, and using Google maps, etc etc, that's not what i'm after.

I want to replace the unit with a SatNav that will work with the driver display, and i need to know if it's only the VW one that will allow this? If there are other brands that allow this, i would appreciate some suggestions.

If only the VW version, then could anyone help me with the part number for the replacement unit that has DAB, CarPlay, SatNav & Bluetooth?

I suspect it's this one, but i can't be sure -> GENUINE VW DISCOVER MEDIA NAVIGATION SAT NAV UNIT DAB+ BLUETOOTH WiFi 5C0035680C | eBay

Thanks all.

I think that the new Pioneer unit displays on the drivers display. The best person to answer to give a definitive is the ICE guru that is @Absolut5.
Jason, can you steer @Sam Lawson in the right direction?

Hi

The Kenwood DNX range and Alpine X802du both display satnav and what’s playing on the mfd

No aftermarket will display the phone book though

I also completely forgot to mention the front/rear parking sensors and the revering camera which will need to display on the screen

All possible,

The Kenwood DNX 8180dabs, has just been released which has replaced the excellent 8170 and the Alpine X802du

Ok gents, thanks again for the suggestions, but unless they significantly drop in price, it’s out of my budget.

I’ve seen a Discover Media
5C0035680C unit for sale, could anyone please confirm that’s the VW unit that will function in the T6 correctly? Thank you

Unfortunately you’ll not get it to work as the head units are coded to the original vehicle. Thus far no-one has been able to break this. It’s to stop people stealing them and selling them on. It doesn’t however stop people from removing them legitimately, as they have upgraded the unit, and then selling them on. All you will get is a dead head unit.

That’s what I’d read previously on this forum. But I’ve also seen a few people on here saying they took it to VW and got it working.

There are companies selling the units on eBay, which would take the risk away, as if VW couldn’t get it working, eBay will just allow the return of the unit for a full refund. Which makes me think of these companies knew it was the case, they wouldn’t risk selling them knowing they won’t work and will be returned.

I’m tempted to take the risk, I may go and chat to my local van centre over the weekend first.

Speak to VW first and see what they say, you would think there has to be a way to do it but not aware of anyone that has had it done through the normal channels (VW)

I've had a chat with my local VW garage and they say it's possible, takes an hour or two. So i'm going to take the risk if i can find a unit for a reasonable price.
