Rusting poptop scissor hinge replacement.

Both scissor hinges on my 2018 conversion are badly rusting.
Is it possible to remove the whole hinge unit one side at a time for repainting without having to support the roof on that side ?
Many thanks in advance for any comments.

You will need to prop it on blocks, like the reverse of installation. You could replace with stainless steel too.

Watching this thread. I have a SWB Skyline Aurora pop top and would like to remove the hinges or potentially work in-situ and have the hinges coloured / painted / powder coated black. Aesthetically don't like the exposed metal look and wold prefer if they were supplied black like the gas struts. I do understand that the hinge passes itself in operation so the potential to rub and scratch the finish off is a risk of colouring.

Would think you’d need to support the roof at the rear at exactly the same height as the hinge holds it otherwise it will twist the opposing hinge.
Also, make a mark of where the hinge sits on the slotted holes so you can get it back in the same place. That’s what sets the roof up square to the van.

Thanks for all your comments. At last got around to taking the hinges off the near side for painting and propped up the roof as advised.
Connecting bolts were easy to detach.
(I took care to take pictures of all the hinge struts plus measurements to ensure I had them in the correct configuration.)

However, upon reassembly I am now having problems re-aligning the holes as per reverse of dismantling.
I suspect that although the correct height of roof was maintained by my three wooden props, the gas struts are possibly pushing the roof too far forward.

I would be most grateful if anyone might pass on any tips for ensuring correct alignment.
Many thanks.

I think you'll need to remove the effect of the gas struts before fixing the hinges. Try using a ratchet strap to restrain each strut or shorten them to allow the hinges to be refitted.
Obviously if you go down the route of removing (at least one end of) the struts you'll need to support the roof shell in some other way whilst working on getting the hinges back into place.
