My current ones within 1 year have practically rusted into oblivion at frightening speed, can anyone recommend a company or place that sells ones that don’t rust so quickly ?
painted please ..where did you get your mud flaps from ? and did they need drilling in or anything ? I was thinking mud flaps would really help, so good to know
I have a set of the inexpensive painted trapezoid bars (from Vanstyle IIRC) and short OEM front mudflaps (attach via existing fixings). Fitted 2020.
They have a few rust spots mainly at the rear edge. The bars were very cheap IMHO so the quality of steel and paint finish is commensurate with the price paid.
I have three current options under consideration:
1) Buzz down the rust spots with my power file and see how deep it goes. If not too bad get them powder (or nylon) coated rather than painted which is a tougher finish. If deep rust then scrap them.
2) Buy cheap replacements and get them powder coated / nylon coated from new and dintrol inside the tubes
3) Buy OEM and hope they last longer!
For the price I paid in the first place I’m not surprised they’ve rusted.
Edited to add that I would not be surprised if all the companies offering the aftermarket bars all source them from the same place!
I’ve got black powder coated trapezoid side bars from transporter hq. I went for these ones as they were advertised as stainless steel. And although the powder coating has chipped away on the front edge there’s no sign of rust so far. I must add I had very good service from thq as the first set arrived damaged but they sent out a replacement set immediately with no fuss.

so what I did in the end was order some more tubular steal ones which are identical to my old ones and on arrival you can see why these rust so easily especially from the inside out and that’s because they are hollow and water goes straight inside them at where they attach to the van, festering and eventually causing them to rust so quickly ..:what i’ve done is spray gavity expanding foam filler inside them,..it takes 24hrs to dry but you can then snap off the foam and it completely stops water going inside the side bars ..hopefully this will stop them from rusting so quickly I’ll update here if they do but fingers crossed
I sprayed my THQ side bars straight out the box, before fitting, with a couple of coats of Raptor paint, they may not be shiny but not going to rust any time soon
