Roofing Advice

Any roofers out there, looking for advice please as I haven’t a clue how much these things cost.
The felt on our roof has rotted under the first couple of rows of tiles causing leaks in heavy rain, I have been quoted £100 pm to lift tiles, felt, re-batten and replace tiles. Does this sound reasonable?

Thanks in advance

What sort of tiles, pan tiles or 10 and half 6 and half, single storey or 2 storey breathable felt or sarking bitumen felt. Can you get by with cutting the felt back and fitting felt support tray to prevent the felt sagging into the gutter and preventing it from rotting

Is that £100 per metre? That’s shocking if it is... always try and use word of mouth or recommendations from past customers. The checker trader type sites are no guarantee!
DIY?

How big an area is it ?

It is 11m long, 1.5 stories up, they are large concrete tiles that will be re-used. There are several holes in the felt about 6-8in from the bottom along the length but I think the original workmanship was lacking judging by some of the things around the house so it needs doing properly.
What is a reasonable cost per metre for this work as I don't have the time to get it done myself. Thanks for the replies

That is expensive in my opinion, battens are cheap and reusing tiles. Large format tiles easy to remove/slide up out the way. It’s a days work.

( I was going to say)
Try to find out what tiles you need, there’s a big difference in price.. but if they re-using them, that sounds expensive to me.

You could get 3 different quotes?

It sounds like you could put a tray underneath the felt and trim off the damaged area. If they are pan tiles there will be only the kicker batten at the bottom to remove unless they are replacing the whole length of felt which is a meter up the roof about 3 courses of tiles

If I was pricing the work I would have to allow for a portable/ full scaffold for H&S.

If its £100 per m is there vat on that,
even so I have to say I think it's a tad expensive
I can't compete against a man in his van on a ladder that's the way it is. but make sure the contractor does what they say they are going to do

Thanks @Peatey , there is no vat and it was to replace the full length of felt in 2 days. Unfortunately there are at least two separate damaged areas now leaking so was expecting the full length to be done to prevent any more. I'll try and get a couple more quotes. I'm near Telford if you know anyone

The felt rotting away shouldn’t let water in, sounds like there’s an issue further up the roof causing water to find its way in where the felts missing. I’m not local but if you could organise a scaffold then I could sort this out for you. Sent you a pm with contact details
