Roof-Bar Prep: does it come with roof bars?

Please can anyone confirm whether this factory fitted option comes with roof bars, or is it just the groove fitted in the roof? I have it specced for my 6.1 Caravelle but not sure if it’s what I thought it was! If roof bars don’t come with it, what do I need to order?

If you've ordered the Roof Prep, you will require the VW Logo Roof Bars, which fit directly into the Roof Prep.
Alternatively, you can still purchase the other type of VW Logo Roof Bars, they are virtually the same, but with a different fitting profile, to allow fitting without the Roof Prep.
Or you could specify Roof Rails, but these are a permanant fitting onto your Caravele, whereas the Roof Bars can be easily removed when not required.
There a plenty of second hand Roof Bars available for sale, just make sure you get the correct profile fitting for the Roof Prep.

Or the Thule feet and rails will work. 753 or 751 and 135cm evo wing bar. There is a fair bit of information on here on feet that fit, the 753 is lower to the roof. I also have a Caravelle with roof prep on order but no sign of it arriving yet hence lots of time investigating what to do with it when I get it.

So just so I’m clear, the roof prep does not come with the rails? It’s just a fitting for rails/bars to clip into?

Correct. It is a channel in the roof that feet and bars fit in to, useful as you can position the roof bars where you want rather than the fixed points but it is not the forward to back rails that are raised above the roof. Will see if I can find a picture of them.

I’m keen to have rails for looks mainly. Can you recommend rails that would fit please? VW or Thule.

Seems quite a few options for rails some with lower weight rating than others, I will let those that have got them comment on what is best out there.

But I have not found a rail that goes with the roof prep yet, I think it is either or.

Mmm. I ordered the prep on the mis-understanding it came with rails. Now I’m hoping I can find rails that fit the roof prep!

I've got the Roof Prep. on my Caravelle (T5) don't believe Roof Rails wil fit, only Roof Bars?
If you want the Roof Rails for 'looks', you can still get them fitted.
Remove your Roof Prep. and sell it!

can you advise … can I fit roof rails Thule or UltiBar directly to the roof using the single fixing bolts as shown in pic. I don’t have roof prep kit, just the bolts as shown. Living in Turkey so parts are expensive to ship. I don’t want to make a mistake.

You can but I don’t know the part numbers as mine is coming with prep, I am sure others will come along shortly and tell you what they have
