Retro fitting cruise control onto a converted T6 has caused component protection mode, a new BCM and still no further forward

Hi all,

We bought a converted T6 startline 2016 in July, having done plenty of research over the lockdowns (including much of the sage advice on here, so thank you!) and it has been great, completing 2.5k miles in three months with long trips from Scotland to south Wales and France. Loved it. I wanted to put cruise control in as we were planning on doing more long journeys and with a slightly dodgy right ankle from a break 30 years ago, it was something I'd wanted. Having done more research and conversations with garages which all suggested it would be possible and not too expensive, a former VW master engineer agreed to install.

AFter a couple of hours things were not looking good as nothing was working on the vehicle, further investigation led to component protection mode being the culprit. It was then moved to the local VW approved van centre where they installed a new BCM and are unable to find why the control modules are no longer talking to each other. They are back and forward with VW technical in Germany and with the bill now reaching £3k, are still no further forward.

Have I really burnt £32k on a van that broke after trying to put a genuine VW part into a VW van with a skilled VW team looking at it? I don't doubt the van centre's abilities but they are going to have another go at it after Xmas so if that doesn't work, anyone want to buy a project?

Seriously though, what do you think my options are?

here is more info on ACC,

Thanks for your time in replying but that's not what I need. The VW master tech fitted the cruise control and now the van won't even lock, let alone start. I know it seems easy and that's what all the research I did would suggest, but the electrics have broken and won't start again.

can you post a VCDS scan?

to see what modules are responding?

what about the old BMC?

has the new BCM been installed correctly?

is it awake? - have you got comms with it?

without VCDS or other scanner you are very limited in diagnostics.

first thing to do is scan the van for codes and list here:

further investigation led to component protection mode being the culprit.
On 2016 T6 only component protection participants are (1) "Control unit for distance control" = Adaptive Cruise Control radar, (2) Dash Instrument Panel and (3) Infotainment.

Is it the basic Cruise Control or Adaptive one being retrofitted?

He didn't know what he has doing and has broken your van.
Not sure why you should be stumping up the 3k..
Might be worth speaking to a retrofit specialist to see if they are willing to work on it - then getting it recovered
