Hi all,
We bought a converted T6 startline 2016 in July, having done plenty of research over the lockdowns (including much of the sage advice on here, so thank you!) and it has been great, completing 2.5k miles in three months with long trips from Scotland to south Wales and France. Loved it. I wanted to put cruise control in as we were planning on doing more long journeys and with a slightly dodgy right ankle from a break 30 years ago, it was something I'd wanted. Having done more research and conversations with garages which all suggested it would be possible and not too expensive, a former VW master engineer agreed to install.
AFter a couple of hours things were not looking good as nothing was working on the vehicle, further investigation led to component protection mode being the culprit. It was then moved to the local VW approved van centre where they installed a new BCM and are unable to find why the control modules are no longer talking to each other. They are back and forward with VW technical in Germany and with the bill now reaching £3k, are still no further forward.
Have I really burnt £32k on a van that broke after trying to put a genuine VW part into a VW van with a skilled VW team looking at it? I don't doubt the van centre's abilities but they are going to have another go at it after Xmas so if that doesn't work, anyone want to buy a project?
Seriously though, what do you think my options are?
