[Resolved] Oil pooling

Hi guys. Just driving home tonight and noticed some blue smoke and a smell of oil from my engine but only for a few seconds. Got home ok and had a look and it looks like I have a pool of oil around what on a petrol engine would be the spark plug? Any ideas if it’s an easy fix or something to worry about. Thanks guys

A photo would help a lot if you have one, are you sure it’s not Diesel around a fuel injector?

Thanks guys I tried it get a photo but can’t really make it out off it. I’m pretty sure it’s oil not diesel tho. Not sure how to explain it but it’s just sat on top of what I’m guessing is the injector? The bit with electrical plug on it (which is above the oil) between that and the engine

Is it possible you have spilt some oil or left cap loose ? Is the van running ok could be a injector seal worst case but I doubt it they don’t tend to go

I’ve cleaned it up once before so don’t think it’s a spill. Didn’t have it before having my cambelt snap and having top end rebuilt. Could this be a warranty return job?

Engine sounds a little noisier than normal but Is driving fine.

It’s engine oil not fuel, my thoughts are as @Niknak says is the cap loose or filler neck leaking.
It isn’t spilt oil from a top up as it has carbon in it (black).
I suggest using a good de-greaser and thoroughly cleaning the area before running the engine with the bonnet up and closely monitor it.

I bet it is an injector seal then if it’s been disturbed the noise could be the chuffing, have you watched this area when it’s running

No I haven’t is that worth doing? It’s sounds a little Clattery type noise? Is it safe to drive or could it cause a problem? Thanks for all your help guys

Just watched a YouTube video on diesel chuffing and the chap looked like he had the exact same issue and he said the engine sounded tappy. He had a seal on an injector failed so I’m guessing there is a good chance this is my problem. Cheers for your help.

Be a little copper washer, if doing yourself make sure you don't overtighten pipe union, and clean the sealing face should really replace the injector clamp bolt too

I will drop it back off down the garage mate cheers and let them sort it. Do you think that will quieten down the engine a bit after then?

Yes dramatically if it's chuffing past cause you won't be getting complete combustion

Turns out it needed two new injector seals and was oil that was leaking. Still has quietened down the engine and seems to run more smoothly. Thanks for your help guys
