Replacing strut top mounts

Hi everyone hope this isn’t boring but I just thought it might help anyone who is planning to do this job so I decided it was time to replace the squeaky top mounts on my van today, the hardest part of the job was trying to undo the drop links I eventually had to cut them out with a reciprocating saw . My van is on air ride so once I had delt with the drop links it was a straight forward job to remove the strut assembly. Whilst it was off I inspected the bearing races and repacked them with grease then set them to the manufacturers torque setting of 26 ft/lbs . Btw the strange looking wooden jig is something I made to hold the strut and brake disc in position for reassembly as I found in the past when I did this job the disc etc drops down and disengages the drive shaft and pulls the rubber gaiter off also it makes it easier to adjust the body height with a jack to position the strut back IMG_2415.jpeginto place.IMG_2413.jpegIMG_2414.jpegIMG_2417.jpegIMG_2416.jpegIMG_2418.jpegIMG_2420.jpegIMG_2423.jpegIMG_2421.jpeg

Need to swap out our top mounts soon but contemplating new suspension at the same time ....might not tell the missus just yet

Well, if you change the suspension it's recommended that you take advantage and change the top mounts while you're there.
I'm sure there's logic to doing it the other way round too!!

I agree I also changed drop links as a precaution, it makes sense as the roads are so bad it must cause extra wear on the suspension parts I am looking at poly bushes next .
