Where would people recommend to buy a new fridge to replace my waeco fridge. It has stopped working so need to replace. Is waeco the best one to go for or is there any others that would fit the same hole in the van? But mainly where is the best place to buy from. I'm based in bournemouth.

Dometic CRX50, very good fridge / freezer with option to quickly remove the freezer compartment for a bigger fridge.
Personally I’d buy according to best price.

Best price and service was mega van mats with next day delivery for me.

That's the fridge I got at the moment. I never had to buy one before so never had to look for them. I will have a look at mega van

You say you need to replace, it could be something as cheap and simple as a thermostat replacement.
Worth investigating to save £500 plus.

I did look at stuff pre lockdown. Last year in November time we had a small smell of gas in the van. I think its leaked its gas. U can hear the fridge click in and out. It just doesnt get cold at all so that's why I was thinking its leaked gas?

Others will chip in here but my amateurish view is I'm not sure that you would smell coolant gas leaking out! Even if it did, you can probably find a fridge repair business that could sort it at a much lower cost than buying a new one. We did that with a tall domestic fridge freezer a few years ago when a guy came to the house, detected the leak, soldered on an inlet valve and re-gassed it. It took about an hour and £60 IIRC.

Make sure your leisure battery is fully charged, and check all the fridges 12volt connections that they are a good mechanical fit then try the fridge again, if the voltage to the fridge is less than 12voltsish it will not start up.
If this fails remove the fridge and connect direct to a fully charged battery with suitable fuse and try again. If this fails seek professional help,

Thank you,
I did research trying to find and repair the leak but came to the conclusion it wasnt very easy or possible?

Specialist stuff, dry nitrogen and ultrasonic leak detector, once it’s found it will need flushing and re-gassing. Not a DIY job.

Dave got me thinking - is it not working just on battery power or when the van is hooked up to EHU as well?

I'm going to turn it on again and check. Originally I thought leisure battery was not holding charge but that is fine. When I was playing around with it trying to work out what was going on with it thatd when I noticed it would cool down in the day when we had solar rain buy would heat up through the night. Thatd why I originally thought it was battery related but I was recording the volts morning afternoon and night and even first thing in the morning I had a very healthy voltage. Then I remembered about the gas smell and I presumed the gas had leaked from fridge as it wasnt a normal gas smell.

Pop a meter on the +ve & -ve connections on the back of the fridge and see what happens to the input voltage during the scenario of sometimes cooling and then not. My first bet would be on a poor supply voltage, could be a bad connection, lose or dirty fuse etc. All of that is free to investigate before committing to spending any money.
If you have to change it go for the newer CRX range as they are better than the old CR versions and by the way Waeco and Dometic of this type are one and the same item.

Ok nice one. I will try that before I go somewhere or buy a new one. I only checked volts at leisure battery I've not even looked at connections on the fridge.

There's lots of wire and connections between the fridge and the leisure battery, don't forget the -ve (ground - earth) wire is equally important!

So should there be any connections to check other than the rear of the fridge and after it leaves the back of the control panel?

Who knows, it's all down to the person(s) who cabled it. Personally I do these jobs with the minimum of connections and shortest cable runs but anything is possible.

Ok. I will just check volts on back of fridge to start with then. And try and check it as compressor kicks in and out and see what's happening. Thanks for all the help.
