Reoccurring AdBlue Level Fault / EML / P204F00 / P20EE00

Im a total novice and new to Transporters so bear with...

Since buying my van (T28/2018/150bhp/panel van) it has had 6 occurrences in past 6 months of ad blue level jumping around (from down to 650 miles) and/or the EML light coming on. Same codes each time - P204F00 / P20EE00

Its under an approved used warranty and have taken it back to main dealers (unfortunately different ones because travel with work). I was charged for the 2nd software update but everything else has been covered by warranty.

So far they've tried (I've got written confirmation each time)
  1. Software update (Dec 2021)
  2. Forced regen
  3. Another forced regen
  4. recalibration of SCVR/Ad Blue tank
  5. Another software update (April 2022)
  6. Replaced glow plug number 3 and 2 charge air hoses

I've not overfilled the ad blue and follow all the instructions when filling up ad blue.

Any advice anyone can offer a newbie?!

cheers

I'd be thinking about taking it back to dealer you bought it from & asking to return / reject the van if they cannot fix the fault ? Give them one more chance to do so .
I would also be looking for them to cover cost of the update you were charged for ?
Hope you get it sorted , had similar problems albeit with a new van .

returning it has crossed my mind...

I've made a fair few changes since i bought it (insulated, had windows put in, bed in back) so not sure where i stand with the cost of the upgrades?

Any info on how replacing glow plug no. 3 relates to the ad blue faults? I asked at the dealer but they couldnt give me a simple answer (well not one i could understand!)

Hi, Did you manage to sort this?
I've had exactly the same problem many times on a 2017 Highline 150hp, but after a few days it usually fixes itself and goes back to what I assume is the correct reading of around 5000 miles Adblue range remaining. Latest display error has now NOT corrected itself as previously. A week after a 5 litre Adblue refill the reading dropped to 650 miles, but it has now counted down to 500 miles and still not corrected after a couple of weeks of occasional driving.
I'm well out of warranty now so considering stripping out the Adblue tank myself. Sorry but I don't trust my local dealer to give me a proper diagnosis after several previous unrelated problems that they didn't seem to know how to fix. Anyone have advice on doing this?

Hi Ian,

Any joy?

For me, its still a reoccuring fault, the levels fluctuate but never actually reached zero! It has been back and forth to dealers with no success. Mine is out of used approved warranty now but i logged a complaint with VW customer care and they have agreed to keep trying to fix it at no cost / offered me a small cash payment for inconvenience. Total pain / waste of my time though going back and forth. Wouldnt trust main dealers but maybe an independent VW specialist can sort?

No progress yet. Still looking for an indi specialist who can help before i decide to try myself.
Mine finally popped back to 6000 miles yesterday on a long run. Phew!

Sorry I haven't. It's been behaving itself since the last time, although haven't been driving it much. I'm sure it'll come back one day when my Adblue level drops a bit.

I’ve just had a similar issue, driving on the motorway, van went from 3000 miles to 650 miles adblue warning. I plugged into Carista and it showed no faults, I decided to keep driving and see if it cleared as I knew I’d put 10 litres in around two weeks ago. Two weeks later it’s gone from 650 to 450 and counting…. I decided to put 5 litres in and see if it cleared the issue, nothing happened, so I stuck another 4 litres in until I could see the water in the filler neck, still nothing.
I have now just done a 20 minute 70 mph drive and finally it suddenly changed from 400 miles to 6000 miles.

So my verdict is there is some kind of dpf/adblue fault and the reset was related to a regen as I don’t drive often on A roads or the motorway. So if it happens again I will fill up and do a motorway drive at 70 for at least 20 minutes and cross my fingers!

I hope this helps others!

resurrecting an old thread

I have exactly the same scenario plus one additional visit to fit a new seal on the turbo which the dealer was convinced would be the fix. first run since and now have same faults again albeit pending ..... grrrrr

anyone know the next stages in VW computer diagnostic list of things to try over the next 10 visits!!!!
