Relocating the Eberspacher hot air outlet.

OK, I need to relocate the hot air outlet from the Eberspacher, as it was originally put in a position by a converter (AJC) that I have since found out is a stupid place to put it. As whenever I try to find a set of furniture the hot air outlet in in the way so the furniture wont fit.

I've now decided the only course of action is to move the outlet.

So considering this I have to choose from either under the drivers seat, or through the floor just behind the drivers seat. I believe that you need to feed the hot air duct up in the chassis rail? Anyone have any photos of the route?

Lastly I will then have quite a big hole in the floor that I need to close up. Looking for suggestions as the the best way to do this, would sikaflax a stanless steel plate over the hole be the best method?

Hi,

Just wanted to drop a reply for info in regards to heater pipe location that's worth baring in mind. The heater pipe location there is never normally an issue for furniture as where it is currently fitted in the van allows a set of units to be fitted 100mm back from the inner edge of the B-Pillar with a typical height of 740mm.

Doing this allows the majority of people to still be able to keep under their drivers seatbase free for a leisure battery or chargers while not taking up any useful space with the heater outlet. Having the units this far back means even i (at 6ft4) can comfortably recline my chair back without hitting the units and damaging any nice leather seats as the seat will still tilt back a fair amount when there is weight in it. Checking seat position after you have jumped out of the seat doesn't give a true indication of its position while driving.

Also, running a heater pipe under the drivers seat means the pipe runs through a tight section of the undertrays which gives it a slight kink and doesn't flow as nicely on the underside of the van which we both discussed in person on the day as we demo'd both locations on your day of install checking at each critical step it's correct.

The van in the attached pic with the oak worktop below shows the setup in action when it all comes together, you can see the drivers seat just has a slight gap ready for me getting in.

The van with the yellow units shows how perfect a RIB bed fits up to the L-Shape unit without fouling, that's why we would always prefer this spot and think it's perfect!

I have pretty much the exact same scenario, the heater outlet comes through the floor under drivers seat somewhat hampering the ability to use the space under the drivers seat for an additional leisure battery etc.
Following this post as i am also wondering the best method to close up the hole should i relocate the heater outlet!
 
The unarguable issue is simply that the outlet for the heater has been drilled so it comes up out of the floor further back from the seat base than it should.

A previous photo from @Skyliner33 shows it is pretty obviously not a standard distance from the seatbase and will impede on the base of any standard unit he intends to have fitted. AJC states the position of the vent allows for a unit to be installed 100mm back from the B pillar but why not drill it so a unit can be installed 100mm back from the seat base or seat belt nut?

When I get my diesel heater installed I want it the below distance behind drivers seat - I think anyone would (if it's not coming out the seat base)

So yours is as AJC have shown in their picture?

Understood. How about keeping it where it is but then routing the outlet so it comes out through your furniture beyond where the fridge normally sits. Just a thought, would be nice and easy.

Sorry for the slight thread hijack. @Fishinbrine , mine has the heater outlet as you describe and I still managed to fit a 100Ah LiFePO4 leisure battery in there. Tight, but doable.

Where it is will intrude into the space where the fridge would go. I doubt it’s a great idea to run a heating pipe into that space as it would massively increase the workload the fridge cooling system would have to do.
 
One directed forwards to defrost the screen before I go out to the van and the other backwards to direct into the shower/toilet room.
A photo of what you have and are trying to achieve would help rather than everyone guessing at the layout as all vans are different.
 
I have EVO motion units (EVO 2.3 SWB) with a fixed rib 112 seat/bed. The space is 7” from the edge of the floor to the unit. Much less than this I feel will really restrict the driver seat adjustment. As a side note, you’ve probably thought of this, the vent in your second picture is pointing directly upwards. It really needs to be directed to blow the hot air into the van to be effective.

It doesn't show anything of the van, just a piece of ducting shoved into a floor. If that is a finished install that is badly done - a spigot should have been used through the floor rather than just bare ducting.

That’s all there is to see. I am wanting to fit a ‘traditional’ set of furniture. That’s is how the install was done by AJC. What do you mean by a spigot? Do you have an example please.
