Refitting tailgate seal after carpeting

As the title says, just finished carpet lining, but I cant seem to refit the tailgate seal over the lip now it has extra thickness of the carpet. Is there a special technique?

I'd hate to trim the carpet back from the edge because the seal gives the best edge, but running out of options..

Got it sussed, ran a trim tool around Infront to push the carpet flat and lever it into the seal as I went.. now left with a gap where the ends don't meet, guess I didn't put enough pressure on it, but can't face doing it again today..
