Rear quarter windows to match Kombi sliding windows

So from what I have read already I need to get OEM glass to match the Kombi windows. Few questions relating. Do I have to go to VW to buy this glass? Do you think I need to go OEM with the tailgate? Still undecided if I need an additional tint to the glass, don't want it to be too dark looking through the windows for the Kids. Any thoughts on tinting?

Are you asking about just the glass or glass within in a frame? I presume your are talking about within the frame. You could approach any of the van converters or VW. Perhaps look on line Are you doing it your self or wanting another party to do it. Tint obviously gives a degree of privacy depending on how dark it is. I have only looked from inside out with moderate tints recently and they do not make vision difficult. That could apply to some dark tints if it is sunny. Some say that tints help reflect some of the external heat. I would have thought that might depend on the technical properties of the glass. Thats about all I can say. Perhaps someone else might take this up with a more informed view.

What are you doing? are there already windows in the rear that you want to match more windows up to, or are you starting with a panel van with no windows and are cutting holes to make some?
If the latter, then just find any, be they from Just Kampers, Camper Glass, Leisure Van Windows or any of the rest.
Do you want (or want rid of) opening sliders that leak? Good luck with that.
If you have no existing rear windows, then it's easy, just get all of them from the same place at whatever tint you require, at whatever price you're willing to pay, they don't need to match the fronts (unless you want them to be almost clear)
If you already have side windows then you need to look at the existing glass markings to see if you can see who made them, then try to match from there or bite the bullet and remove the existing and replace the lot with matching glass from elsewhere. This could be cheaper than trying to match VW or a specific pattern glass like Bebb from Salop Vans.
Rear windows the same, I tinted my VW original to match the Leisure Van Windows/AM Glass sides but it may be just as cheap for you to replace the lot.

I spoke to Autoglass (Carlisle) and they quoted under £500 for 2 non VW sliding windows. I was looking at the time to replace my leaky VW ones - couldn't see the point of taking the chance with VW again. They had a range of tints.

£500 for two windows? Including fitting?

Already have VW Kombi windows. They haven’t leaked, yet.

Yes, £485 I think. They aren't VW windows, but I had similar on a previous van and they were fine, though the slider is inset.
What are you wanting to do - change your windows to a darker tint, or add new windows??

I want to fit rear side windows that match the Kombi side windows in look and tint.

I've had the rear windows added to a couple of Kombis in the past and in both cases found that there was no matching tint from after market suppliers and had to have them from a VW sources. The first Kombi was a Trendline the second was a Highline. In both cases the window fitters were Van Window Specialists at Castleford

£££££
Could be cheaper to replace the lot with aftermarket to the tint you would like, sell the old ones if you can get them off without damaging them.

Not much in it for sure. So for Kiravans it’s £642 for the four side windows and a tailgate. For VW it’s £617 for the two rear sides and a tailgate.
I’m inclined to go with the VW, my Kombi sliders don’t leak and removing two windows only to replace sounds like a whole lot more work. Might get a non original tailgate as I don’t mind if that’s a darker tint (I think).

Mine were about £138 each in 2016, now I guess they are about £165 each. Those were / are 7E3 845 331R and 7E3 845 332R, tinted and heat insulated.

The above were supplied off the shelf by VW Van Centre (West Yorkshire) and fitted by Van Window Specialists, fitting cost me £140. All prices inc. VAT.
We’re you happy with the factory tint? At the moment my Kombi windows look quite dark possibly because there is a bulkhead in there. A lot of people seem to talk about having limo tints done to darken them but the last thing I want is it to be dark to look out of. I can see that dark windows look great externally.

Yes we are happy with the factory tint, both recent vehicles have been like this and have been converted to high roof campers. Pictures of the previous one which was a T5 can be seen here, they may give you a clue how it looked. The current T6 is converted very similar but has a Reimo high roof and a tailgate.

I think I’m happy with that tint

I've had a good read through as many forum threads as I can find on this subject, but I'm not much clearer what my options are. I have a 2018 Kombi Highline with dark tinted windows in the rear passenger area. The build sheet states that these are "QL5 Venus 35/Privacy". It looks like the tint is a film, because it has scratched away in small areas here and there - I bought the van second hand quite recently. I'd like to have rear quarter windows fitted and obviously want the tint to be matched to the existing windows. I've enquired at a few places online and it doesn't seem as though this is going to be easy. If I'm going to repair the scratches in the existing tinted windows anyway, would it be easier to replace the original side windows and add rear quarter windows all from the same supplier/fitter? I don't really want to do this if I can help it. Am I correct in assuming that the original windows are letting in 35%? Would I notice the difference if new rear quarter windows were letting in 20%?

I could be wrong but i thought the genuine glass was tinted glass not a film. I have rear quarter windows fitted that match the factory windows in the kombi,i think if they were a different tint then you would definitely notice itIMG_0097.jpgIMG_0098.jpgIMG_0100.jpg

I have factory kombi windows which have been tinted and have added rear quarter windows - using genuine vw glass, which came with a green tint
My local tint place did them to match the fronts though and am happy with the reults

That is what I would have expected, but it certainly appears to be a film - it is also considerably darker than your appear Martin.
