Rear axle air suspension

Hi,

I wonder if there is an air suspension kit that fits inside standard rear axle springs to support extra weight and level the vehicle? Thank you.

If the back of your van is sagging you can fit stronger springs, ie T32 springs. Many people do this on camper conversions.

My VB air suspension replaces the springs - so I doubt you would still have them for the air suspension to fit inside. Unless you are thinking of a hybrid system of some sort? Never heard of one though. Also, I believe the VB Air system requires mods to the suspension mounts or something like that, and so is not a straightforward switch back to springs.

Ah but you’ve not answered the question, didn’t you get the memo?

Due to the Barrel shape of the standard rear spring and the bump stop tube position i think fitting an airbag inside the spring will be problematic ( it is common on other vehicles however ) It will wear and puncture easily i fear , I have encountered just about everything the transporter market has to offer , and i have never seen this arrangement done before . Trawl some Aussie suspension sites they would do it if its possible ?

We have however partially removed air systems ( the front ) and left the rear air bags in place to give the solution you seek . as Shaun said there are mods needed to be done to the rear bump stop tubes and this i feel is the reason that no one will develop an air assist for the rear .

Yes, it is possible and works well and have had no problems (fingers crossed). Yes, it does need cutting of the bump stop which is problematic if later decide to remove them. I have them fitted to my T6.1 campervan conversion using Eibach springs and Koni shocks.

I knew the Aussies would have an answer ha ha

Thank you very much for your help. Have a good day.
