Positioning of a PWM

I've been getting all my kit put together but have a little question about mounting the PWM. I bought a big battery box to put ...the battery in.....(duh).... There is a space in the end of the box that the PWM will fit in if it were fixed to the battery box divider. The question is, how hot will this module get when panel is generating? Is it unsafe to have it enclosed in the box? Is it better on top of the box? Currently it could go in either position.. Thanks in advance.

I guess it depends on the controller, I have the Victron 100/50 MPTT controller. It has big alloy fins on the back, but even when the solar panel was maxed out at 320 watts it was still cool to touch, at that point it was putting in over 25 amps into the battery.

As above test first before you final fit.

PWM solar controlers just switch the panel voltage direct across to the battery very fast.

They start to heat up as the charge current goes up.

The victrons are good for staying cool.

To test, get a flat battery and a sunny day.... that will be the work case scenario for heat.

Whats the specs and post some pics of your setup.
