Polarbox portable fridge not cooling

Hi all,

does anyone have a polarbox compressor fridge like this one?

IMG_20210801_154056.jpg

I purchased this after reading @Dellmassive 's excellent fridges and cooling thread.

Just plugged it in and set the temp to 2 degrees. The compressor kicks in but the temp on the display just stays at 23 degrees. It's been on for nearly an hour now.

I've tried it on mains and 12v.

Anyone else had any issues?

How long does should it take to reach temp?

can you post a few pics of the instruction booklet.

and the screen.

my ones when empty will drop down to temp within 30mins or so.

put a 4pack of beers in it and see how you get on.

I think your one looks same as my one . . Clone.

see here re temp monitoring . .

this is my display , , ,

as a test set it to 0degc or -10degc . . . that will get it going.

also . . . they are supposed to be left FLAT for a while before switching on. . . . something to do with the gas and liquid settling.

I've set it to -18

I'm ashamed to say I didn't have any beers so put a 4 pack of baked beans in there. I don't think the fridge will know the difference

I left the fridge upright for more than 24hrs before switching on.

It's 's still showing +22

Does the inside have metal walls? You should be able to feel those get noticeably cold.

lol . . . #

very good.

leave it 30mins and see if the beans are getting cold. . .?

do you have a thermometer you can drop in there?

looks like its set on MAX mode?

is the inside just not getting cold at all?

is the compressor running all the time?

is the 12v fan running?

are the sides of the fridge wall getting cold?

any more pics of the fridge inside and power conection?

Yes it does. Doesn't seem to be getting colder

Yes I put a thermometer in there and no change.

Instructions say max mode for rapid cooling.

I've put in on eco now but nothing's happening. Still warm bloody beans.

I think it's going back or off a cliff. Haven't decided yet.

Thanks for the replies

ok. . . Warm Beans is never good . . .

try switching it off and unplugging.

then give it a good shake and a bang about . . . . maybe a kick or two.

just to see if it comes to life - what have you got to loose?

...

so we are assuming that the temp readout is accurate,

and the fridge is not cooling . .

but the compressor IS running?

out of gas?

loose internal connector?

got a power meter? - too see what power its pulling?

Just moved it to the garage and plugged it in.

Opened the lid with it running and it definitely feels colder on the walls.

It's only dropped 2 degrees but at least that's something.

On second thoughts I don't think the compressor is running. I think it's just the fan I can hear.

Woohoo 19 degrees now!

Might have a cold can of beans to celebrate in 2025!

lol . . . that exactly what i would have done . . . =]

took it appart . .

got some more pics of the guts?

if you have only just purchased it why try and fix it get it replaced i bought one from just kampers and it gets to -20 in about 1 1/2 hours so yours is more than likely faulty

Where's the fun in that? Haha

Ordinarily I would, had I bought it from a reputable company.

Sadly I bought this from an eBay store as most were out of stock. Just had a look and they've had 24 negative reviews in the past month alone.

I'd rather give fixing it a shot than have to deal with the hastle of returns with a shady company. They did have a 99.6% rating though. I'll see how I get on. If they turn out to be d***s I'll name and shame.
