I use a Nikon Z7ii and its a great camera once you get used to its foibles and features..which I'm still getting to grips with!

Evening all,
My youngest lad (10 years old) has a budding interest in photography. Besides his iPhone, he has recently bought himself Nikon Coolpix L840 from eBay which he adores.
If there anyone here who’d be happy to have a WhatsApp or Facetine chat with him (don’t worry, I’ll be in the background) about photography and the like to help him with his new hobby?
Many thanks,
JOG
This is excellent, thank you. Just the sort of resource he needs to nudge him in the right directionThis guy (video below) is a wildlife specialist but quite a few of his videos are basic tutorials that can apply to many styles of photography. The basics of exposure will need to be mastered and the relationship between shutter, aperture and speed rating (ISO) understood first.
There are many "types" of photography (sports, wildlife, portrait, landscape, street) but your son will need to learn the settings of his camera and understand how they affect his images as the same rules and effects will apply regardless of photo type.
Try only changing one thing at a time to see the effect. Even if it is 100 pictures of the cat in your garden. The benefit these days with digital is all the test pics are free and instant!
Good luck.
Just found this one. It's a really good explanation of the basic 3 and what their effects are. This is excellent, thank you. Just the sort of resource he needs to nudge him in the right direction
Riddle of the Sands! When I worked overseas, me & my mates found an Olympus Miu buried in the sand on a beach. Cleaned and serviced it and it became our "nights out" camera for at least a year until we lost it. Great bit of kit

Cheeky little trip out in the van very near to home this evening.
Looks a bit more green on the phone than the MacBook. Run through demonise as the ISO was 12800 and heavily cropped.View attachment 291884
Long eared tufted owl or European eagle owl only the dark eyes contradict that?Cheeky little trip out in the van very near to home this evening.
