Permanent live in t5.1 tailgate ?

I’m currently looking to convert my t5.1 to 6.1 and I know that the wiring is different in the tailgate of a 6 and 6.1,I’ve watched the you tube vid etc.people seem to require a permanent live feed but I’m confused my tailgate has the electrical handle already that works with no keys in ignition and I’ve parked for hours and hours and tailgate still operates.So how does the switch work in the handle with no permanent live feed?im no electrician by the way

This probably old news but think your 5.1 is the same as 6 it’s the original t5 that had mechanical handle.
