Hello - Newby here, I am just about to take delivery of a 2018 LWB Shuttle. The aim is to convert as and when we can but I wanted to start with the addition of a Leisure battery, hook up and insulation and lining. Cost seems to vary Wildy but I have a quote from a local conversation firm

Leisure Battery £560
12v Split Charge System & Charger £780
Line, insulate, carpet and vinyl £2000
so all in (£3340) inc VAT

Any thoughts on this for value?

With the body side, get a firm quote on exactly what areas are going to be covered and with what.
Some converters don‘t do the cab.
Some converters don’t do the floor.
Be concerned with what is not on show with the finished product, a poorly sound deadened / insulated van is hard to rectify after the conversion. Note the sound deadening and insulation is a simple process, something 99% of people could do themselves and save on cost. Search the Forum for more info’.

Thanks - Have to take the van for a look over , so I can ask the specifics then, cheers

Sounds a bit pricey but if the work is good and you’ve had a recommendation then go for it.

Seem to remember paying about £1200 for carpet lining, insulation and sound proofing.

Electrics price seems very high to me, I’d definitely ask exactly what they’re planning on fitting for that price.

Are you going for a full camper conversion in future? And a pop up roof?

Hello @ShuttleBug ,i am from not too far away from you here in Carlisle. My advice is to travel to the places that are proven to be very good at what they do. Look at lots of examples and stories on here and go from there. If you have found someone local to you that is really good then you are very lucky and it is your van and your choice but don't be afraid to travel to have work done,it's all part of the fun and the Uk isn't very big so it can never be too far away if it's the right job. I personally couldn't hardly find anything i wanted done locally and have literally been all over the place. Most of all,try and enjoy the process of turning your van into exactly what you want it to be,it's a very personal thing and everyone is different, good luck with it all, keep us posted on how you get on

@ShuttleBug some of the work is very easy and making your van your own. but time consuming measuring everything 3 times just trying to get it perfect over thinking a lot of jobs. its very rewarding after sitting back seeing what you have been able to achieve. not just climbing into someone else's work that you just paid for. your planning is what wiring do you want , getting the right panels, carpeting panels is an easy job for a great result .

i should start a thread of what is used for a basic fit out everyone can add their bits and quantities to it and we have a list of all the parts needed and how many hidden clips were needed i ran out when they sold in 25s i got 75 i think it was 111 2 types for walls and ceilings 11 needed for the cross beams but i got spares left over now i did't know how many to get lol in all 2 x rolls of thick fleece i crammed into the cavities 1 x roll thin i needed 2 as iv not got windows. what trim tools we used... ect.... ect

The Suppliers are great and next day delivery THQ Bailed me out with More fleece no one had any saved me stopping work Mega Van Mats were quick with more clips Travelvolts and Alpha batteries replaced the to big a leisure battery i ordered i could't lift it the van would of lent sideways all fantastic great guys good companies backing us up .. cant thank them enough

i got my panels from custom shop design in the kit there is no front 1/4 panels as most vans have glass they sorted me out and i brought a 2nd roof to make the Halo with just wish i knew there was no fixings for them i could of added the clip holders for the sides but my velcro is working for now

and worked with the other half without a single row ........ neither of us had done some of these jobs before

if in any Doupt just Ask in here ........... everyone wants to help .... they are a Smashng bunch of like minded people

Looking for a quick electric question well it may be quick - I am getting ready to order kit decided to go for it had some advice from @dErZ on insulation and now looking at the electrics .. i have been on travel volts and i can see almost all i need but i a stuck with the B2B charger. I do want the option of Solar at som point but i am. I am not sure what it is i am lookng for on the website.

Can you help ?

Leisure battery Leoch xtream 110 Ah AGM £144 - Check !
*** B2B charger £ approx. £200 ish £ 250 ish with wiring there’s a few to choose Ctek for future solar connection ***
Victron Blue tooth battery charger for hook up 12 / 30 £150 Check !
Hook up lead £ 50 Check !

@ShuttleBug ,get in touch with Martyn @travelvolts ,tell him exactly what you are wanting to do and he will advise and supply everything you need right down to fitting kits for everything, depending on how big you are thinking of going with the solar panel, you may need a seperate solar controller from the b2b charger but Martyn will tell you better than me,hope this helps

@ShuttleBug you can add Solar at any time via a add on unit the Ctek has the connection there waiting already
or go with a Victron blue tooth unit later when your ready just include the space needed for it and B T is handy if its tucked away out of site.

the other bits don't cost a lot fuse board, sockets and switches , U S B charging point handy if you can see a volt meter but your phone will tell you what your leisure battery is doing . just plan where you want cables run to before carpeting or run conduits with pull strings / draw cords left in them

its very rewarding building your own so good luck ..... you can do it.....

As others have said, give Martin a shout @travelvolts. You can do your electric install in stages. EHU (electric hook up). Leisure battery and solar. Makes it a bit more managable financially but it is an uber pain in the bum to keep taking the front seats out to run cables, so come up with a plan as to what you want now and in the future and run it all at the same time. Running the EHU cables from the starter battery into the cab will require removing the front seats, carpet and lower dash.

@ShuttleBug was @travelvolts who supplied my kit great service let him know where your fitting your battery when you order so he can send you the right length leads. There's a stack of info on U tube to fitting the equipment , carpeting , sound proofing , fitting the B2B even our very own @Dellmassive he's on the Telly he even put our last years meet up on there but dont look out for me leaving the loo's in me undies hahahah
