Paintable grill trim inserts (T6.1)

I'm having my grill and dog bone trim painted gloss black at same time as LV-S splitter being done in the Ravenna blue. My plan was to get the trims painted Ravenna as well, but the paint shop said the chrome effect trims chip really easily if painted. I'm wondering whether it would be better to get some aftermarket trims and have them painted instead. Has anyone got the matt black ones and can you confirm if they are just bare ABS plastic similar to the grill? If so I would assume they should be paintable the same as the grill?
