P0672 cylinder 2 glow plug circuit open

Looking for some advice yesterday the engine light came on on my t6 transporter 2017 plate, I order a code scanner which came today and have scanned it, it’s come back with p0672 cylinder 2 glow plug circuit / open, I have the van booked in for a service next week on Tuesday and have told them about the engine management light being on which they are going to look at when they do they service, wondering if I should just delete the error and see if it stays of and then just ask them to test the glow plugs rather than them charge me £80 just to plug it in and get the same error code as I’ve already got…. Just trying to save a bit of money as only had the entire fuel system change about a month ago which cost me £8500 and the wife is not impressed 😂 as we only brought the van in march.
Also is it ok to drive with this error code it’s thrown up as we are of on holiday at the end of next week and need to drive from Cornwall up to London to the airport 🤦🏽‍♂️
From what I’ve been reading glowplugs aren’t to spendy to get replaced but I know that at least one of them is potentially stuck in from the investigation work carried out by another mechanic whilst trying to get the bottom of what turned out to be the fuel system issue so worrying it’s not a quick fix before we go away

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give

If you clear the code and the glow plug is faulty the fault code will come back pretty quickly.
Note - it could also be the wiring to the glow plug rather than the glow plug itself.

Hi thanks for your response, I did think that would be the case… is it ok to drive with this error ? It starts and drives completely fine no issues at all and it’s been on for 3 days now, my concern is I have a lot of driving to do in it next weekend and don’t think the garage will have time to sort before I go ?

From my understanding it should be but might have issues when it turns cold ? But obviously will get it sorted when im back from our trip ?

No affect on driving - actually the glow plugs are not used even for start-ups at current temperatures. Though you'll get the emission light on dash as a reminder.

Will the emissions light if it comes on put it into limp mode ?

Just testing the glow plugs would incur a similar charge I'd expect.
I'd just ask them to change glow plug 2 which is what they'll probably do anyway once they see the code. At least that way you don't pay £80 diag fees.

Although not urgent you'll be stuck with an engine light if not fixed sooner rather than later which could be an issue if another fault develops as you wont be aware of that so just scan periodically for peace of mind.

My concern is I know that some of the glow plugs are jammed in due to another mechanic trying to get them out a while back so it might not be as simple for them as just whipping it out unless glow plugs 2 isn’t one he couldn’t remove, I plan to sort asap but heading to London for a couple of days next week then back to Cornwall and up to Bournemouth airport to go on holiday for a couple of weeks so was more concern about these impending trips in the van

They need regular soaking in a good penetrating fluid a couple of weeks prior to removal. Fair to say that most mechanics won’t care to much if it’s seized as it’s extra work.
In Cornwall you’ll probably get away all year around with one or more defective glow plugs.
There are companies that specialise in problem glow plugs, injectors etc. Probably a better option than the spannershop down the road.

Maybe give them a spray with penetrating oil before you go on holiday, so that theu might be a bit easier to remove when you get back.

I meant without driving in between otherwise the oil turns to a carbonised mess.

Buy yourself an elm327, it's clearly cheaper than £80 and you'll do your own diagnostics with the Torque app. I've had a spark plug error in the first cylinder P0671 and the fourth P0674 for a year now. It starts without problems in the winter. I've already checked the fuses and relays under the battery, the contacts are not oxidized, all are clean. And to get to the spark plugs, you need to remove the bumper and the radiator.
