Our Old Classics

@catfood12 when you getting that NOS bottle fitted to the van

Crikey... good spot. That was on a 'dry' NOS system I had fitted to a 1991, H plate, XR3i EFI station car. As you're all old ford lags too, you will know that most of the XR3is and the Escort RS Turbo were all Bosch K Jetronic. Only the last few XR3i's were EFI.

I worked for a US company many years ago, and hand carried that back. The dry N2O systems had a single N20 solenoid and a resistor pack to fool the EFI fuel rail pressure sensor to raise the pressure to add extra fuel. Rather than the traditional wet systems that had two solenoids and injected additional fuel and nitrous. I had a couple of years of great fun, with the N20 giving about 60HP boost on a standard XR3i. This was a tatty Xr3i that I used only to drive to the station and back. Not a straight panel and the general pub car too. No one ever gave it a second look.

Two things bu99ered these japes up. The major one was that some rule was bought in around 2006ish that you could only get a euro bottle refilled. That US bottle didn't have the correct stamping to show compliance with Euro regs, and gradually no one would refill it. The second was that the car failed an MOT on corrosion. This was pre-scrappage scheme and all that, ad these cars were worth very little. I think I paid around £500 for the car on ebay, ran it for two years needing just tyres. Well, just front tyres. :) I then scrapped it with a local RS scrappers for £100.

I then bought an equally tatty 1990 G RS Turbo. Ran that as a station car. It was broken into attempted theft twice, then it threw a rod through the block. That may have partially been my fault. I then went to the same RS breakers, and paid £100 for an old CVH turbo block that needed a liner in one bore. Had that relined then some fcuker did mange to steal it and it was never seen again.

Still love old Fords....

Have tried to buy this of an old boy that took it to NZ with him from new when he emigrated. Now wants to pay for his grand daughters dental training and was looking to sell, but now can't part with it.

Sorry, big thread hijack... All emotional now. Back to the animated indicators chaps....

Got to love an original twin cam  enjoyed loads of sideways action through many a forest

That must be a RS1600 or a RS2000 if still as good as it looks in the pictures its worth a lot of money. MK1 Mexicos are £20K if you can find one. Friend of a friend had the RS2000 back in the day, what a bit of kit.

Your "Old Knocker" looks good, not a lot of good ones left now and the Oak Green is right. Future classic? Son had a Rallye, great car but he was doing to many miles and to many hours to keep on top of it. Have still got a MK4 turbo in my unit to put back on the road when I get a chance. I have had a Corrado and my son has got one now thats in progress. I keep looking at the Rs, one day maybe.

Love the old escorts, especially the red one! Couple of mates had that style, one was genuine xr3 they other bog basic but he upgraded. It's old bugs for us, we have a 65 and a 74 (all be it in pieces), we had a '74 Westfalia and an '83 GMC van at one point too.
