OEM Webasto Auxiliary Heater To Parking Heater Upgrade

Generally speaking you can not have two control modules with the same address on the CAN bus of the same vehicle. There would be constant conflict for both, internal communications and also for diagnostic purposes.

I will be facing exactly same issue when will have to sacrifice Highline Reversing Camera module (6C) and throw it away to be replaced by Area View 2 module (6C).

So another words you have to prioritise and select only one and the most useful control module for your maximum benefit and convenience.

Okay, sounds understandable.

but once i understand. How know the panel which heater is controllable?
If you have the water aux. heater installed stock, you can set „only fan“ in the overhead panel to bring fresh air in the car.

This function is not available when you have the air heater from factory inside.

anywhere must the panels be different, otherwise you can set the air heater only to set only fan too.

Or read it via can which one is installed?

i dont know.. as i said, i try a water aux. hater panel and check the different in the Car :)

maybe i can flash my H panel into a J panel? Also this i would like to test. But not with mine, for the test i take the second once :)

Okay, 6 hours later and the remote control t91r works very fine. Configure the water aux. heater in vcds to only remote control without overhead panel and it´s done.

Next step is the overhead panel but the delivery service are very slow and i must wait for my panel :)

Thats all for the very nice informations!!

The shit was to bring a cable from the heater to the t91r in the a pillar..

I´m very happy :)

Thx all!

Has anybody with Climatronic upgraded the Aux heater to a parking heater with the Danhag kit? Seems this requires no coding or re-flashing, and is plug and play via the red connector under the passenger seat. It also connects to a Webasto controller of your choice. Seems very simple. The info i'm struggling to find is if it's really 'usable' as a night heater, or only really as a 'defrosting' tool. The heater, coolant pump, fans etc will all be running from the starter battery which is no use for overnight usage. I guess the heater could be switched over to take 12v+ from the leisure battery, but that still leave the fans and pump. I'm also unsure if this kit allows the canbus to continue to operate the heater as an Aux heater for cold starts? I assume it does.

During the past few weeks of cold weather I have noticed a whirring underneath the van. My door has sticker indicating Thermo top Evo 5 KW

am I right in thinking the kit to make this act as a night heater is £160 ?

presumably it is difficult to fit and and re code ?

does any one on here fit this kit and do the re coding as opposed to taking it somewhere to be done at an extortionate cost ?

Yes, you're both right.

The danhag tool would be connected via can. Danhag use the "service start for aux heater" modus to start the heater over can. You don't need to flash the heater and you must not coding everything. The tool do that every time ago and you can still use your heater all night long.
But watch out, when the battery are down, your car would't start. The aux. heater use power from the starter battery.

You just need the danhag Zuheizeraufrüstung VW T6 - Climatronic kit for climatic / climatronic.
But you are shure it will only cost £160 ?? In Germany they demands a lot of money. Here it cost 389€

Hi all

I'm currently toying with converting my webasto, or fitting a diesel heater.
Can the webasto aux heater be powered off a liesure battery, or does it screw up the can bus comms?

I'm not so concerned with engine warming, but more about van cab warming for de-icing and getting driving quicker, and over night heating on the occasional sleep night.
As for cost, webasto mod is about £200 from what I can see (DIY), but a 2kw chinese diesel heater is £80 but a bunch of my time to fit. Both will need liesure battery and split charge.
Currently sitting on the fence. I don't have the overhead control panel, so just trying to determine what would be the best route for my end goal.

Any insights guys?
Thanks

The main issue I found was the battery. The Aux heater also needs a water pump and fan blowers to be working to heat the inside of the van. It’s essentially got to heat the engine coolant, pump it around and in doing so heat up the air blowing across the heat exchanger. That’s a lot of stuff running off the starter battery and whilst it’s pretty easy to rewire the heater to run from the leisure battery I think the other stuff just becomes a non starter. I’ll be going for a 2kw heater under the drivers seat.

Thanks for that @1Pearman
I was trying to figure out all the other stuff that would need to be running to achieve my end goal. I am definitely leaning towards the 2kw heater as it is self contained. I’m also not that fussed on warming the engine.

The OEM Webasto + coolant pumps + cabin fan blower draw approx. 12 Amps when running.

Did anyone of you got the heater running with firmware 7E0 963 272 B and a Thermo Call TC3 or TC4? VCDS Coding is 4101, but same with 4001, 5101, 5001.
When I send the start command via sms, I can hear the heater making some sound for 1-2 seconds, but then it stops :(
Do I have to use the Webasto-flash software with blue dongle to get it going with the TC3 or TC4?
Thanks in advance and sorry for my bad english.

VCDS Auto-Scan and wiring diagram/pictures would be helpful.

Hi MMI,

thanks for your feedback!

Here's a picture of what's going on underneath my drivers seat :p

tempImageaCVVXa.jpg

The wiring is as follows:

Webasto Thermo Call TC3:

Bildschirmfoto 2021-05-15 um 13.22.18.png

- Pin 1 - +12V: Connected to +12V directly to the second battery
- Pin 2 - GND: Connected to the Ground bolt under drivers seat
- Pin 6 - W-Bus: Connected to the Green/White cable of the Red Connector

The Thermo Call receives sms messages and also sends messages back to my phone, but the heater doesn't start - only 1-2 second sound and nothing more.

Thanks. German is not a problem ;)

Unfortunately I haven't done this myself. Here is what I have gathered about Thermocall TC3/TC4:

I'm afraid TC3/TC4 does not work with VW OEM heaters - thus reprogramming (flashing) of the heater would be needed for this. It seems that VW OEM heater software doesn't use (Webasto's proprietary) W-bus, instead LIN (Local Interconnect Network) bus is used and obviously between those two protocols there is some discrepancy.
More here:

However,
It seems that OEM heaters equipped with OEM remote controller can be adapted for TC3/TC4 by using an adapter cable (e.g. product number KW1320931A).
However, noticed that your van doesn't have the remote controller. It would have shown in the scan like this:

Thanks for all the information! Sounds interesting with the LIN / W-Bus and makes sense. So, if I would get the following upgrade kit, the TC3/TC4 should work without the remote controller? You are absolutely right, I don't have one installed. I also don't have the roof controller, which I want to buy.

Webasto Zuheizer - Upgrade Software mit Dongle für VW T6 (bei Aufrüstung zur Standheizung), 249,00 €

Funny thing is, that I can start the heater manually when I connect my VCDS Interface directly with the green/white wire using WTT (Webasto Thermo Test). As far as I know, WTT is also communicating using W-Bus "language". Therefore it is strange that the TC3 isn't working...!?

Thanks for the Y-Wire links. I read over in the German forum, that someone with OEM heater from VW and T91 already installed used one and connected the TC3, which didn't work. But I need to dive deeper in this topic.

Or maybe I just buy a T91 and the roof controller, sell the TC3 and keep everything OEM like ;)

I'm a little confused here, I have the overhead panel installed, but I haven't got around to fitting the Telestart unit yet. Am I right in assuming that once I have flashed the heater, the overhead unit will work? If this is the case, where can I find all the bits and bobs to flash the heater, I already have the latest VCDS, but it seems I need another interface and software!

Regards
Graham
