Noisy air con fan

Hi, newbie here.
When using our air con, we don’t get a lot of air until we put it on no.4. We then get nice blast of cold air which is great but the fan is really loud.
Should we get more from 1,2 &3
Should the fan be that loud on 4?

Are you sure that there is not no output on settings 1,2 or 3? If nothing on these settings but normal on 4 then this is probably a failed fan speed change resistor
Fan / heater speed control or search "fan blower resistor" on the forum

Hi Alan - I had the same issue on our T6 about 2 years ago, and as @kipperman says, it was the fan blower resistor. I found it easy to replace (plenty of videos on how to do it on YouTube).

Make sure the fan settings are set to blow to passenger - not windscreen.
Some numpty in my van did the same and couldn't figure out why it wasn't working.

Thanks for the quick responses and advice, much appreciated. I’ve looked at prices and there is a big difference from £8 on eBay (China I presume) to £80 on a VW genuine parts site. In your opinion is it worth getting the genuine one as it could be a case of buy cheap buy twice? Or VW just making more money off us? Thanks again

Both. However, there is a possibility that they are all made in the same factory.
If you know the resistor - might be able to get it at somewhere like CPC Farnell.

You could just replace the thermal fuse on your failed resistor.

Unfortunately a mechanic fitted a new resistor but that has not solved the problem…not sure what is the next step..thanks
