Noisey T6 Engine - squeaking

I have a 67 plate 23k mile's 102 bhp and it got a squeaking sound coming from the os of engine when running, sound loud when outside van and can hear inside. Sounds from cam cover side, does anyone has anyone an idea what it can be or similar experience?

Could be the alternator
With all the muck grit salt etc of the roads

Try a squirt of WD40 on the alternator itself not the belt (when it’s not running)

Then start and see if that does any thing
Cheap option to start with
Sure some one else may have ideas from there

hi had the same 3 weeks ago changed fan belt solved the problem

I sent mine back in and it was a fault on the tensioner pulley. Constant squeak but noticeably louder on start up

Gents,

My cam belt is due for replacing.

Is changing the tensioner / fan belts normally undertaken at the same time, or should I specifically request they be replaced?

I had the same .. took into to dealers and they replaced the 'ribbed belt' under warranty I also thought it was the tensioner

Had my cam belt down nearly 2 weeks ago and asked on here what else I should think about while it’s at the garage and was told “tensioner, aux belt and water pump” as well as cam belt so called the garage to request those extra items and they said they do these as part of the cam belt change but guess it may vary from place to place

hi every one any advice please just been reading on cam belts change on mileage /or years .my t6 is a 18 plate just out on warrentry by about 5/6 weeks .the mileage is 52.000 iv found out its every 4 years for a change, but i have noticed like a noise that could be a tensioner pully/or belt noise sounds like a worn engine noise,if it is the tensioner should i get the belts changed immediately or still safe to wait untill the 4 years are closer. also as the belt is a 4 year thing i dont surpose its covered in any way i know the warrentry is up in the meantime i will try spray bit wd 40 on the alternator .any advice would be appreciated thanks

I have my alternator belt changed and it’s not squeaking now. Apparently the belts have something on then that wears off and they squeak once it’s worn off. I had a VE original part fitted and now all okay-hope this may help

thanks mines not really a squeaking noise its more of a worn engine noise that you would expect from a van that ad done 150.000 miles not 52.000 it was only reading on here that i picked up on could be a tensioner noise then iv also read a cambelt recall on some.thanks again

Mine turned out to be the cambelt which surprised me. I replaced the aux belt but was still there then the VW specialists took a look and said there was a known issue where the cambelt can squeal and cause big issues, they replaced it (its 5 years old and 60k miles so was due anyway) and happy days... the noise is gone.

Aux belt and tensioner for me. Same as for the OP much more noticeable after cold start and then improved but never quite disappeared. All cured now.

Sorry to jump on this thread, but I’ve got a squeal coming from my engine. I bought the van a few months ago and it had a squeak when I looked at it. The guy said he’d get it fixed before I picked it up which he did and it’s sounded fine till now but it’s now pretty loud again. Guessing it’s the aux belt but anyone know why it would go like this so quickly after being replaced? Tried to upload a video but unfortunately can’t work out how to…

Do you have the receipt for the aux belt and tensioner replacement?
