Noise From Fuel Tank Area

hi all,

Recently I’ve started noticing a humming noise coming from middle of the van which I think is a fuel pump in the tank.
I notice the noise when stopped at traffic lights and it then goes if I turn the engine off. Sounds like it’s coming from just in front of the 2:1 row of seats in my Kombi.
Does anyone else notice this noise?

It’s not overly loud but loud enough for me to notice, my wife as usual claims she can’t hear it.
It’s a humming/ buzzing of a motor running and this weekend could hear it with around 1/4 tank of fuel left. I haven’t driven it with more fuel recently so unsure if I would still be able to hear it then.

Mine is a 2019my 150 Kombi with 3k miles.

Thanks Jon

It could be, do you hear it as soon as you oped the drivers door? As as the lift pump runs for 2 seconds.
edit: some VW models do this, but the Transporter 2L diesel doesn’t do this.

No, I hear it from the drivers seat with all windows and doors closed. I can hear it the entire time I’m stopped at lights with it running.

Yes, I understand.

Have you ruled out aux coolant heater as the source? It runs below +5C until engine is hot.

I’ve heard it when the engine is warm so I do not think it’s that.

The noise was there this morning after a 25 mile motorway run with a 3/4 full tank but then my commute home this evening it didn’t make a noise.

Does the adblue tank have a pump?

I have the same noise

Would you say it’s normal?

I’m starting to wonder if it is just normal noise from the lift pump. It pumps out up to 6 bar of pressure which is a fair amount so would expect some form of noise from it working.
I’ve had all the interior sound deadend and carpet lined so now with it being quieter inside I’m picking up on things which I wouldn’t normally hear.
