New member. T6.1 Caravelle Owner

Hello there.

I signed up a while ago while hunting down information while I was deciding what way to go. I knew I wanted a T6 or T6.1, and figured the Caravelle was the most sensible spec for me really (family motor really). So after a 24 hour test drive, I decided to pull the trigger.

So picked this up 1st September. T6.1 Caravelle Executive 199 DSG. My first van. And I love it.

Not new to VW. But this is by far the most expensive VW I've ever owned, ha ha.20200901_190721.jpg20200901_190802.jpg20200901_190734.jpg20200901_144114.jpg20200901_144119.jpg

Great choice! I have exactly the same coming soon, only in Starlight Blue. Currently at port of exit waiting to ship to the UK. One thing that slightly irks me is the ghastly matt plastic fog light surrounds on the front bumper. Not sure what VW were thinking when they came up with that design!

Yes, gloss black might have been better. I might get that painted gloss black at some point, most likely when I get some splitter for it. There is also a bit too much bling on that grill for me, but then again, I'm not sure I want the van "murdered out". I don't deal drugs, or shoot people for fun, ha ha.

It is a lovely machine though. Although I dunno what happened with the spec. It's meant to have the wireless charging, but instead it's got a cup holder. So I am getting the dealer to look into that just now. And wireless app connect doesn't work with Android Auto. Boooooooooo.

Interesting that yours is missing the wireless charger. I asked about that when I placed my order since the van I test drove only had a cup holder. The brochure at the time said available from April 2020 so it should be on models being delivered now. I will make sure I look out for that before I accept delivery!

I'm not sure when mine was built. It may have been before April. It was sitting on this side of the water when I put the order in, so don't know how long it's been sitting there. Hopefully the dealer sorts it out though. While it's only a "nice to have" and seems a bit minor to be rejecting a vehicle based on that, it would be useful, and who know if it affects not resale value so much as ease of resale if all the vans competition has it, and this one doesn't, ha ha.

Welcome! I'm also waiting on my Caravelle Exec to arrive at dealers.

When I asked about the wireless charging rather than cupholder, the dealer knew nothing about it... I had to show him a Youtube clip to prove it as I think he thought I was mad! I've opted for the good night pack which I think includes the cupholder storage rather than charger anyway.

When I ordered my panel Van back in February , even though the showroom had signs advertising wireless charging I was told it's only available in Europe. A load through bulkhead hatch is also shown on lots of YouTube videos but we don't get that either. Another thing is the wireless app connect that I was told I'd get , I didn't. Only if you get the discover media upgrade. When you try to connect the usb cable there's no volume on things like Spotify which is very annoying. Brand new van and half the media stuff doesn't work as advertised.

Just looked at VW's latest Caravelle brochure and it indicates that wireless charging now available from late 2020. I might explore having one retrofitted when (if) the part comes available.

Ah, I didn't see it was a late 2020 thing. All I saw was that it should have been fitted, and indeed, it was fitted to a van I saw a review of, so just assumed it was already a thing.

Either way, I have my dealer looking into it. And hopefully I'll get them to change it out FOC. Otherwise, hopefully it wont be too expensive.

Yes I am also going to try to get an FOC swap out since it was originally scheduled to be released in April.

The other thing I just realised it that the T6.1 Caravelle is decked out with USB C sockets and my iPhone charging cable is a USB 3.0 - looks like I'm going shopping on Amazon for an adaptor! ;)

Ha ha. Yes. That reminds me, I need to get a couple USB C to Lightning cables of the kids ipads. I already bought a pack of USB C to USB C cables just to keep in the van. We have Samsung Galaxy phone that all have USB C anyway.

Hi there xs2man, looks like I've got the same as you but different colour. I'm in the Indium grey camp.

Can I ask if the front steps have a stainless steel trim like the rear sliding door ones.

My van has stainless trim at the rear but std grey plastic in the front.
Very dissapointed to be honest!

Regards The old goat.

Just been speaking to my local dealer about the wireless charger. Apparently the release has been delayed but it when does come out it will be an optional extra rather than a standard item. Might see if I can buy the part and retrofit once it becomes available. Seems like a tidier solution than having cables everywhere.

Well, that isn't what the website states, ha ha. And also, when I spoke to VW about it, they agreed that it should have been there. My dealer seems to be willing to help here, so that's not so bad.

In the meantime, I bought these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07TQYL1GY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

So that pack has a short, 30cm cable. Which is an ok size to just loop from the socket to the phone.
