Hi all. New to T6 ownership for 6 weeks now - ex-RAC T32, seats to install, floor to do so look forward to your info, wisdom and experiences - already having some of my own but what's life without a little challenge eh?! Impressed with the sheer scale of interest and enthusiasm for these vehicles so looking forward to ownership and adventures. Steve

Pics you asked for, pics you get....any claims for arc-eye will be rejected.....subtle colour, had to have it! Story so far ...purchased at 93k with full RAC service record and previous owner has spent quite a bit on various mechanicals like turbo, DMF, DPF, NOX Cat and adjustable Koni shocks. He also did a mighty fine job on installing window to rear hatch and opening side windows and fully lined floor with ply and covering, installed rear speakers, spotlights on dimmer switch and socket for external mains hook-up. It came with 18" VW Durban alloys but I have changed these for 16" as shown. Why??...they looked good but too big for spare carrier and I didn't fancy the tube of gunk alternative. That said, the vehicle came with no spare carrier but simple to source but when trying to fit, first hurdle encountered.....the bracket into which the outer end is secured, specifically for the removable bolt, the socket thread is...what's the word?.....eludes me for now but think it ends in 'ed'. Dilemma I have after trying to clean thread and still not able to get a bolt in more than a few threads is do I go for buying and trying a fine metric tap and hope it manages to get the thread usable or do i go major and get a new bracket fitted....bumper off job and cutting out old and welding in new I imagine?.......racking my brains for an alternative and cost effective workaround....ideas on a postcard please. The rear is ply and floored and it breaks my heart to do it after the work the previous owner did but it's likely needing to come out to accommodate the 2+1 Kombi seats I have sourced to match the front. Local companies available to fit with me providing all the necessary bits which have now been sourced so getting closer to usable day-van. I haven't got the camping bug (yet!) so haven't opted for the mobile hotel room with McDonalds kitchen annex as that's a lot of weight to haul round unless you're making regular use of it so with removable seats, I will compromise on trips with sleeping bag etc and basic catering equipment.
Other things I want to do?...get the reversing camera connected which was previously part of the RAC set up...camera head in top of number plate recess but residual cable availability not yet determined. Roof rails, rear spoiler and replacement better spec audio unit also on the list. Have set up a service plan with VW and just purchased a warranty for peace of mind so gradually getting there.......have to say that whilst enjoying my new relationship with the T6, marriage was cheaper!! Apologies for so much info on this thread but you needed evidence that my T6 is not my new 'imaginary friend'...be careful what you ask for!! Anyway, that covers it I think and I look forward to using the forum and hearing about the experiences of others - all the best people, Steve

Just in case its not obvious there are two holes for the front of the spare bracket carrier thingy and only one of them is threaded normally, the other holds a captive bolt

Thanks, the threaded hole for the captive bolt is fine, it's the other that is problematic. No big issue for time being as spare is lying securely on floor in rear pending resolution but when I take the van for the seats to be fitted, whilst up on the ramp, I will see what recommendations they can make. Until then, may try a tap and see if it can be resolved
