Jan 2019 van with the 199 CXEC engine.
Bought in Oct 2020 from VW with 13k on clock, now has 45k on.
Mainly run on V Power in my ownership unless desperately needing fuel or V Power not available.
Been faultless until Oct 2024 when I had injector issues so had them replaced.
Completed a 1500 mile trip to French Alpes in April. Returned on April 21st and parked it up for 3 weeks as didn't need to use it.
21 May - Battery was totally flat so gave it a bump and a run about and seemed ok. Reset all the low voltage faults that pop up.
22 May - Took it for a longer drive and got dash coil light and into limp mode. Had numerous turbo faults and EGR low flow and low voltage faults. Replaced battery and reset all faults. Still got coil dash light and into limp mode.
Had EGR mapped out just to see if it resolved situation, but EGR is not engine critical so no reason to go into limp mode. Was hoping it wasn't turbos, but all roads led back to them.
Into VW in the hope that some good will would be provided as van is only 6 yrs old with 45k on clock.
They diagnosed turbo issue, specifically an actuator and agreed to ask for 50% good will.
Full job price is £5300 parts and labour (9hrs) - ouch. Not sure of the split yet, but believe all turbos and fitting kit to be about £4k.
Unfortunately, one of the services was only an oil change which I elected to do myself. Saved me about a £100 at the time, cost me £2600 ultimately - bloody idiot!
VW Breeze wont warranty the job if they just do the actuator which is readily available from TPS at £300 max inc vat.
I could have taken it away and tried to get someone else to remove and set up, or potentially had a go myself.
If we were not approaching summer camping and holiday season then I may have chosen the DIY or shop around path.
However, the van is the centre of our summer life so needed fixing asap as camping and activity weekends all planned and booked up.
'Lifes too short', and 'happy wife = happy life' and all that, so I've told VW to get on with it.
Very frustrating VW refusing the 50% warranty which I kind of get on one level. But equally question whether an oil change done by me can effect an electrical actuator out side of the oil system is even relevant to the argument. Yes I did raise this point with them, but I also recognise I have a very biased view. Seems like an easy 'get out', but I can't change it.
Upshot is I will have a perfectly good twin turbo unit for sale only needing one actuator for someone who is not in a hurry and has the skills/time to DIY.
Other than all that VW Breeze Portsmouth have so far been great. Getting me in for diagnosis real quick and planning to get the job completed on Tuesday next week, bearing in mind I only called them on Friday 9th May and they took it in Tuesday 13th May.
I really don't like spending this much on vehicles but I chose to have a newer van. Really disappointing that such a key component should fail so soon in its life, but maybe lack of use for a few weeks and the flat battery had an effect. Possibly, but we'll never know for sure.
Fortunately, VW offer an interest free payment plan upto £5k. Not really a 'win', more of a bit of help in a dire situation, but I took it.
It's been emotional!
