A hairdryer is sufficient, but don't use anything else that might scratch the lacquer.
You should find once they are warmed up, if you twist each letter with your fingers, they will come off quite easily.

Hot air gun on low and fishing line has stood me in good stead for 30 yrs. Bit of isopropanol will get rid of any adhesive that's left but it usually rolls off nice and clean without needing it
