Long post alert, sorry
I've just had a T6 highline converted, and I have a problem with the electrics. Set up is as follows: a 120W PV panel on the roof, feeding a ctek battery-battery charger, there is also a conventional battery charger for when I'm on mains hook up. Leisure battery feeds a fridge, lights and a diesel heater
The conversion took a very long time (for reasons that don't concern us here) and the van was stood in the workshop for 8 months
I packed the van up for it's first trip and fired up the fridge. Left the fridge on for about 3h then couldn't start the van - flat battery I put the engine battery on charge, we got it started and drove to the dales (~70 mile drive 1.5h) parked up, put the van on hook up, about 2h later we get "low battery" alarm on the dash. We had to keep topping the engine battery up via a charger over the weekend.
Obviously I contacted the converter on Friday, he emailed me with a list of things to check and as far as I can tell he has wired the van up correctly. The CTEK unit is supposed to detect when the alternator is running and only draw from the engine battery then. The leisure battery is sitting at 13.6V but the engine battery is 12.2. I emailed him on Sunday but so far have not had a response
I haven't got a schematic to check the wiring against, but could anyone tell me
a) where the "engine running" signal into the CTEK should go to
and
b) if the engine battery was kaput from it's lengthy stay in the workshop could that produce the symptoms I'm seeing?
Thanks in advance
