Leisure battery not charging

Hi all,

I've read some posts on this topic, but now at a point I could do with some advice on my leisure battery not charging while driving.

I bought my van last year already converted and it had been charging fine with weekly use until a few weeks ago. From the Votronic control panel I've got in the van I could always see the voltage jump to >13V with the engine running but the battery was reading 9V, with or without the engine running. I could see from the sticker on the battery it was over 5 years old so thought maybe it was time to replace it anyway which I've just done. I found the same battery already fitted to replace it with so as not to have to mess with the battery box, but it seems it's still not charging going off the control panel in the van (it's on 12.4V, not increasing with the engine on).

I've checked all the fuses in the battery box with a multimeter, including the 2 x 40A inline ones on the positive leads to/from the charging converter and the 50A inline in the engine bay. All seem ok.

I've included some pictures and wondering if anyone can recommend what to check next? This was with the engine running.

In case it helps anyone else out, by process of elimination I thought this must be the charging converter which lead me to this thread:

I know a few here have these, so just a word of warning. Seems to be a design fault that causes an internal fuse to melt and potentially burn (!) If you look in the LHS of the unit look for any heat damage or melted case on the side. Our unit stopped working - said charging - but no voltage...

Short summary: Votronic acknowledged some people had issues with the Votronic 1212-30 (if you have one with a serial starting 20x it's one of the affected ones) and revised the design. If you are affected, email [email protected] and they'll organise an RMA. I got a new unit with the revised design within a week of emailing. Great service considering the original was 5 to 6 years old!

Now I'm not living by torch light in the evenings.
