I'm going to my dealers on Saturday am to ask about OEM slider, do you want me to get a price?Any spare sliding windows sitting in someones garage?
Thanks for the offer but I’m coming to the conclusion that shipping costs will be steep if it’s going to arrive in one piece, this is a project to keep me occupied on rainy days so I’m in no great rush.I'm going to my dealers on Saturday am to ask about OEM slider, do you want me to get a price?
Interesting, when I was in the dealers I got my van for they said they have loads of slider windows they have taken out and I could buy a couple. I really can't decide if to go the OEM glass or not? I might just try one to start with. Slider would be the opposite to most people, but easier to keep an eye on leaks and less to damage as well. Thanks for the offer but I’m coming to the conclusion that shipping costs will be steep if it’s going to arrive in one piece, this is a project to keep me occupied on rainy days so I’m in no great rush.
I phoned a couple of local VW van dealers today, warranty replacements get shipped back to Germany (maybe to put back into the production line)?
Non warranty items get taken away by large auto glass companies, I tried phoning one that deals with VW dealer in Plymouth but no chance of getting past the receptionist.
I have a local converter / transporter specialist who will contact me if a window turns up.
Cheers.
I have no intention of replacing my OEM sliders, I just want to experiment with fitting a different seal, there are many seals available by the meter. When mine leaked I discussed their replacement with local conversion companies. Most advised they have replaced numerous OEM sliders with aftermarket so I would have though converters might be able to supply at a much better rate than VW!
(In the end I repaired mine (as detailed on the leaky window thread) to save the money and I'm now really happy with them as they look the part being flush and made perfectly for the van. )
Sounds a good plan.I have no intention of replacing my OEM sliders, I just want to experiment with fitting a different seal, there are many seals available by the meter.
There’s a lot of emphasis on keeping drains clear but not much on making the seal rain proof, the drains should be the backup not the primary solution.
I don’t think it will be too difficult to improve on the original seal.
With you being in Swinton would your local be inshcape trafford Park? Did they give you a price? Hi, no it wasn’t. However i have found out that a place called Halifax Windscreens have a good stock of them as they remove them for the local VW place. I know they will be willing to sell. Maybe we would get a good deal on buying 2sets?With you being in Swinton would your local be inshcape trafford Park? Did they give you a price? Id be interested in a set

They come in standard and privacy tint. I am going to Manchester VW in the morning, so I will try and get part numbers from them and post on this thread, or pm you the info. Will do, would you require tinted or standard? Or do they only come in one flavour??
