Does anyone know what’s the changes are in the new model? We decided against changing the sound system and bought a new SatNav. However 6 months on we wished we had upgraded. Now confused as I called a local consumer and he recommends the Kenwood 7170 which is cheaper, I don’t want to get it wrong this time. Thanks to anyone who has the time to respond

The Kenwood DMX7170dabs is a great unit, but if you want as close as possible regarding integration with your Transporter, ie parking sensors, MFD info and MFSW then I suggest going for a Kenwood DNX8180dabs or DNX9180dabs these units are truly superb, super fast, much better screens than the DNX518dabs as they use a capactive on the 8180 and a HD on the 9180dabs
We can supply it as a complete plug and play kit or we can install it for you..

Absolut T5 fitted a Kenwood DNX9180DAB headunit in our Caravelle 2 weeks ago and its a great unit. I had a Pioneer F88 in our T5 which was great but this unit is super fast and the screen is great especially as it tilts inwards to help with the stereo pososition in a VW van. With the mount they provide it looks like a factory fit but a million times better than the very slow and very expensive VW unit that came with our T6, I think the top media unit is a £1500. The mfd displays sat nav data etc once they code it and the steering wheel controls work as normal
I’m afraid we don’t supply OEM units, only Alpine and Kenwood
Thank you, trouble is I don’t know enough about it all and don’t live anywhere near you to pop in and look at systems. Does this mean that the parking lines are not shown on the screen with the 518 & 7170?
The 518 will show parking lines but has a poor screen
The 7170 dosent show them out of the box, the only way you can do this is by using a expensive aftermarket interface, which plays through the reverse camera input, so it’s a bit slow and bulky to install
The 8180 and 9180 are superb units

Hi, I’ve been thinking of changing the standard unit in my t6 for a while, used to use kenwood in other cars and vans and was looking at the 516 or newer 518, just looked at the 8180 and it looks great(all online mins you)
Does anyone know if the Bluetooth still display in the dash and do the steering wheel controls still work for phone calls?? My van is a work van and it’s one of my favourite features, don’t need to look away from the road for too long to answer calls and it’s great to be able to scroll through recent calls and redial all using the steering wheel, if this still works with the 8180 then it maybe my first purchase of the year

The 8180 and the 9180 which has a HD screen, both have motorised reverse tilt screens to combat the sun glare, also not have much superior screens to the 518
We can retain the factory parking sensors, steering controls, dab aerial, and radio stations, audio tracks and even the Garmin sat nav information on the MFD, but you cannot display recent calls on the MFD
Answering of calls is also kept and even the factory reverse camera can be kept too
This is the same with the 518, 8180, 9180 etc
