It's not worth it

i just realised I've spent 1600 pounds on Dynaudio stereo in my van. It really sounds like 160pounds... def not worth it!

What extras did you buy, that did not live up to your expectations?

Thats interesting, there aren't many people who have heard the dynaudio upgrade. Have you compared it to a standard Discover System?
There are quite alot of people on this forum that have upgraded their Discover system with a separate amp/sub/component speakers, and a very please with their results.

Well, if i put my harmon kardon onyx in my van it sounds quite similar. Especially poor sound in the rear of the van. Some panel vibration at low frequencies will also distort the sound.

Next to crap in my opinion

Have you sound deadoned the van? I had mine cranked up whilst washing it at the sailing club on Sunday and despite the amount of gain running through the subwoofer channel on the amp to the 10" under the seat I was amazed that there was virtually no panel noise at all. And for the volume it was at that was highly surprising.

Left door panel is my problem, comes and goes. Is there a woofer under the seats?
No sound deadening

No I only have a subwoofer under the seat as I have upgraded the speakers.
Maybe @Absolut5 can suggest an option to resolve the issue. A number of us have used him (Absolute Audio) to upgrade our sounds; definitely the go to guy.

Any factory Audio upgrade is not worth the money, made of cheap plastic, cheap drivers and poorly EQ'd

First I would sound deaden the door inner skin and door plastics, keep the speakers and drop a small amp on them and add a custom underseat sub enclosures, this will allow the door speakers to play cleaner, louder as they are not trying to produce all the frequencies

The new Volvo xc90 is the only system id pay for, its Bower Wilkins Audio system is just heavily. Uses the Nautilus tweeter and a new free air alpine subwoofer. Expensive but well worth it.

This was another option that had NO information from either website or dealer - just the wattage.
Sorry VW but if you want us to "guess" with our money, you can naff off.

Went for the mid range upgrade on the BMW and it's actually quite good - for £280 you get subs and a proper amp. Bargain.

I've had the Dynaudio in a Mk6 Golf and the Harmon Kardon in the 1 series. HK was far better IMO.

In the van I will be going under seat sub, amp and speakers when funds allow...

Weirdly I didn't like the HK system in the 1 series (M135i) - sounded too synthesised and artificial. So went for the less powerful but more natural sounding (IMO) Advanced system which was also a bargain. Not Earth shattering but sounds plenty good enough to my surf wrecked ears. The standard system is woeful.

As mentioned before though, very few OEM upgrades are that good and use cheap components even under brand names like Bose. Volvos B&W stuff is good as is some Mark Levinson but that's about it. Most systems are a bit like modern cars IMO - very "impressive" power but too artificial using electronic trickery over actual proper kit.

Definitely best to go aftermarket if you want decent sounds - proper amp, crossover(s), sound deadening, well made speaker mounts, decent cable all make for some pleasing noises.
