Insurance And Trackers!

Just looking at renewing my insurance and called Brentacre and they were looking at £780 for myself and wife :(, both have full NCB and the upper side of 45 with no points , the van is parked in a drive way... is this the norm? i did disclose all the stuff that has been done to the van , this was done by Leighton Vans and not myself so i thought it would be more competitive than £780

I,m currently insured with Admiral on a multi car policy , both my van and my wifes car [range rover evoque ]came in at £715 with all the modifications noted?

Any other insurers worth considering , i keep well away from Adrian Flux myself as i once insured my Triumph TR4a with them and they were a nightmare

I'm with Herts (HIC) VW specialists. £330 or someat with all mods covered including full camper conversion, airride and alloys

I'm gonna throw this out there.... I insure a Volvo V60 R design on a 15 plate and a brand new Kombi (150 manual SWB) with Aviva for £435 a year. Fully comp. business use. The lot.

Just had a look online with Aviva, multicar with a fiesta, and it came out at over 1400 pounds!

A plan insisted on a tracker when I called them any thing over £35k apparently !

It all depends on your postcode, I have a caravan and camping club approved tracker yet no insurance discount from my insurer as it's not on their list, funny that the CCC never told me that.
I found Brentacre pricy, I went with 2Gether who use LV

Call up brentacre, I'd be very surprised if they are not vastly cheaper than flux. I was with flux and the quote they gave for the kombi was crazy! So I left flux, lost out on £120 for leaving early, but still saved hundreds more with brentacre.

I know this is an old comment, but thought I'd share this.

My Mrs was insured with Carole Nash on her bike, she sold it so I rang to cancel the policy. They wanted to charge for leaving the policy early so it was going to cost us extra and also loose the remaining money as we'd payed the full year up front.
So we'd be around £150 out of pocket.
I argued it out with the lady on the phone and she said the only way we'd avoid the charges was if they couldn't offer us insurance if anything changed on the policy.

So..............the Mrs rang to inform them she'd changed bike, Ducati 848 kept in street, daylight MOT, race mods, no security etc etc..........you get the picture.

They couldn't offer a policy so they had to cancel the policy not us. Money refunded ;)

I quite like the idea of a tracker (Thatcham approved). It's my van and I like to know where it is. A lot of insurers will only insure over a certain value as long as you have a tracker fitted, especially on a camper, and the quotes I have had have been extremely good value. Very good deals at Herts Insurance by the way.

Just visited my sister in SW France, her son is 18, has a 9 yr old Honda civic and a 1977 Ford Cortina fully comp for £140 a year...go figure!

Maybe they don't have a culture of whiplash injury claims in France ;)

Judging by the amount of dented cars you see on the continent I'm guessing that one thing will be that people don't claim so much for minor damage and just live with it?

I like the sentiment, and her style

But I wonder what the position would be when you next insure and are asked have you ever been refused or declined insurance??

Not sure about that one, I thought refused/declined was something to do with something like a criminal charge ? I can't see how it could be policed for anything like a 'sorry we can't insure that vehicle'. For example how many 17 year olds would have been told a company won't insure them as they're a high risk ? Surely that doesn't stick with you from one company to another.

I'm pretty sure an insurance company couldn't back out of a claim if they had took you on as a customer and another insurance company hadn't.

Any insurance experts on here with any clarification ?

To revive this thread a bit, I have just had my insurance renewal through from A-Plan, really competitive again, and was about to say "yes lets go for it", but noticed that the value of the vehicle was set at £34,000. I mentioned that since I have just spent £6000 on the roof and poss a few more on electrics, that would never cover a replacement like for like vehicle. Suggested £40k would be a more acurate reflection. They said the underwritter for modified vans would require additional security such as a tracker for anything over £35k.

Exactly what @B19DRG reported last year. The agent has gone away to check with the underwriter.
A plan insisted on a tracker when I called them any thing over £35k apparently !

So now I may need to consider this. More sodding expense (and i don't really consider trackers are that good as most Police forces wouldn't be tracking the vehicle anyway so its a pointless expense). However I did tell them I plan to get it remapped imminently and they said they would cover a stage 1 at no extra cost.

And after all that, A-Plan called me back to say that they had called the underwriter, who would usually require a tracker for anything over £35k, and apparently they have looked across their products and have found one that does exactly what my current policy does, but doesn't require a tracker! BONUS!!! The irony being was that I had started looking at the second hand cost of T32 65 plate 180 bitdi kombi's, and was beginning to think that if mine needed replacing i'd have to start again with a standard highline kombi and then do all my stuf to it, so add 10-15k on top of the vehicle. Whilst I'd have had to take a bit of a hit, was thinking I might have to agree that the value was £34,999.99. So this outcome was even better.
Oh and to top that off, they said I could still do a stage 1 remap at no extra premium cost.
