How To Increase The Timer for Defrosting Windows?

Hello,

I have a Caravelle T6 from 2016.
I'm using it in Lapland during the winter. It's cold, and very cold... :D

I need to use the defrosting windshield (I have the option), but the timer is too short for me, I need to push the button too often.

Do you know if it's possible to change de timer/delay? (and same for the back window)

I have a VAG-COM.

Thanks a lot :)

Think you would need to dig through the adaption channels in the BCM (module 09) and see what you can find

You said you have vag com I assumed you knew how to use it ?

Yes connect to van, enter module 09 and have a look through the adaption channels and see if you can find an entry relating to screen/heating

Interesting comment about the Climatronic sending a CAN signal to turn it on...

Thanks.

Nop, I found nothing.

That's only the documented adaptation channels. Besides those there are actually quite many channels where the controller responds with a value. Just click on any of those to see the actual channel number and then scroll the channel number up/down. But as said the purposes/effects of them are uncharted.

The most of the channels in range 0...99 are active and have values that probably can be manipulated. E.g. Channels 3..15, 20, 22..48, 50..97, 99 are active. However, a risk of messing things up is high. So a backup of coding is essential.

A known unknown probably is channel #38 controlling interior light delay. See more ---> Interior lights In the neighborhood there are many good nonzero values just hanging there to be revealed.

Yeh,

The switch is connected to the Cliamatronic unit by the looks of it, . . . . which then sends the ON/OFF command over the CAN to the BCM which then switches on the Relay to the screen depending on the "Energy Management" status . . . . ie engine running, disable stop/start, enough power in the battery etc.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but this looks like a relevant place to put my question....

So, I'm looking at increasing the rear heated screen timeout,

This was an option in a Beta version of Carista some time back, So i'm thinking its not a fixed timed relay, but configurable... somewhere....

Using VCDS there's nothing in the listed adaptions for Cent. Electrics

So before i start tinkering with the unknown channels that @mmi has listed above, is there a list of what these channels relate to anywhere or anyone have an educated idea where the rear screen heater timeout setting might be.... TIA

An updated adaptations list is here (as an attachment) -->
Channel 39 or 42 would be my guess...

Thanks @mmi the codes list help narrow it down a bit, but still looks like its going to be some guesswork involved...

On a VW Golf shown here... its a value of 15, so using the same thought process, your suggestion of Channel 39 might be a good starting place...

Just checked updates in OBDeleven developmental data -
It suggests now the following:
channel 39 - timer for rear window heater (in minutes)
channel 40 - heated mirrors
channel 41 - windscreen heater
channel 42 - head light washer - washed every n:th time
So would be more than happy if you could confirm (m)any of those :geek:

@mmi

I can confirm Channel 39 is the rear heated screen timeout

Adjusting this value had the following results

Channel 39 - Default Value 15 - Rear Screen heater stays on for 7 minutes 30 seconds
Channel 39 - Value set to 20 - Rear Screen heater stays on for 10 minutes
Channel 39 - Value set to 30 - Rear Screen heater stays on for 15 minutes

Value has a divisor of 2 for minutes

I can also confirm Channel 41 is the front heated screen timeout

Default Value = 20 - Front windscreen heater stays on for 10 minutes
Value set to 10 - Front windscreen heater stays on for 5 minutes
Value set to 30 - Front windscreen heater stays on for 15 minutes

Value has a divisor of 2 for minutes

Thanks @mmi for posting up the development data above.

channel 42 - head light washer - washed every n:th time
Confirm. Default 10. With value 0 head lights are washed every time when windscreen washer is operated. Value 255 disabled the headlight washer.
