How much room behind the rib

Hello,

I have just paid a deposit on a LWB T32. I am trying to figure out how I can make it a flexible work/camping van.

A couple of questions...

Is it possible to move a RIB bed in and out of the van or is it fixed?

If a RIB is installed in a LWB, how much room is there between the end of the RIB (when unfolded as a bed) and the rear tailgate?

Many thanks, James

Im not aware of the RIB being easily removed, like the multivan rail system.

I've taken mine out a few times, its only 6 bolts, buts its really heavy and i use a duct lifter to remove it and i put on the mezz floor in my workshop so its out of my way.

My RIB is on the 200mm sliding frame, so i can slide it to be 10mm off the tailgate.

is It a Kombi or Panel van? Plus is there a bulk head?

I use my van for both work, pleasure and camping. I use a full size double bed mattress on top of a thinner, cheap fold out sofa bed that fits between my rear wheel arch boxes allowing the mattress to rest all the way across the width of the van.

I also built a 2 piece removable bulkhead when I’m working throughout the week.

Hi and Welcome to the forum . you can have a RIB on a slider so you could move closer to the front of your van when not in use hope this is helpful

Thanks for the replies. It is a panel van with bulkhead. I plan to have a RIB in the back 90% of the time but need to remove it occasionally. If it is 6 bolts then that sounds doable. With the RIB out, do you have 6 bolts sticking up from the floor?

I don't have any bolts sticking up.

i have this type of brackets holding the seat from below with a 10mm bolt through the seat and chassis.

From what I've seen, most LWB conversions use the extra length in the middle of the van between the front seats and the back seats. For me, it would be much more useful to use the 400mm at the back for carrying gear. Is there any reason why the RIB bed couldn't be positioned further forwards? I was thinking that a 'headboard' could be made at the back of the van behind the bed and shelving could be added to it for storing gear accessible from the back. I might take this even further and build the headboard up to the roof and have even more storage...

Any thoughts on this... are there good reasons why this isn't normally done?

Thanks as always for the help and advice.

From what I've researched I don't think you can change the location of where you put the seat, I think the only way to have that option would be to have the seat on rails. Cheers

You can mount the RIB on rails and slide it that way, or you can have a slider on the RIB itself. This latter option is like a front seat in that the frame is fixed, but there is a slider between the base and the seat itself. This gives you about 20cm movement front to rear so it is listed but depends what you want.
