So we arrived yesterday on a site with a coin meter for lecky .
We have a powered cool box , telly, kettle ,fan heater ( on cool for the dog) and microwave .
Have boiled the kettle 3 times for brews , used the micro for 2 ping curries tonight and scrambled egg smorn , telly has been on approx 6hrs , fan on cool for an hour or so cool box plugged in for 17hrs .
We've used a total of 68pence 🤪

Nice have you got a kilowatt hour reading at al

I haven't Dell . 🤷‍♂️

2 brews smorn , telly on , cool box running , leisure battery charged and just about to cook bacon and eggs on the induction hob ...still showing 99p on the meter (out of the £2 we put in on sunday when we arrived) .

Just shows what a rip off campsites are when they charge us £5 per day for hook up:mad:

Things are changes here in Spain as well, some sites are already charging extra for EHU........... thank God for solar as the sun shine 300+ days a year

As we have solar, don’t use an induction hob, microwave, kettle, heater or telly and only really use the EHU to charge phones and LB which runs the lights and fridge, I think I should really question my continued decision to pay for a EHU on every trip we do!

Or I need to get down to curry’s asap!

We have stayed on one site which was metered and included a free allowance of lecky, after 3 days we had barely touched the allowance

What about sites that charge for the showers? The last site we stopped at (Green Frog, Moffat) had meters: £2 for 4 minutes.
I had a thorough wash at the sink instead (private cubicle) and used loads more water than necessary because there was no plug, and soaked the floor in the process.

EHU was included in the pitch fee, which was only £21, but WiFi (one device only) was also an extra £2.

I would have been happy to pay £25 incl. WiFi and showers, but find it hard to recommend the site because it seemed petty and irritating to charge for "extras".

In the C&MHC handbook for this year they're doing an option to book with an hook up and then when you rock up change to a non hookup pitch price if you don't want their Dom Perignon electric.
It's called "Smart Metering" and rolling out this year, apparently. :geek:

I dont know if you can say you want a EHU pitch get to site and change your mind and stay on the same pitch we stayed at Trewethett farm a couple of weeks ago and all the so-called ecomony non electric pitches where in the top field on grass have a look at their site map and the willingcott site shows only one pitch non electric

Any pitch apparently, but there are only 2 'lockout' devices per site initially.

Here at our favourite campsite in France it's about €5 for hookup. However, having a pretty large leisure battery they are happy that I only pay for days when we recharge - which works out about every 4th day. So for us a win over an actual kWh meter, although that of course depends on the price per unit that you are being charged.

… please accept my apolology I stand corrected I phoned the C&MHC and yes smart metering started in May at all sites it's probably in the magazine which I recieved today …
We arrived at a C&MC site on 7 May, discussed electric use, but weren’t offered a non electric option. Looking at the link the saving isn’t fantastic though. Of course this isn’t Smart Metering, just a non electric option. Our independent Norfolk site back in February was genuine Smart Metering and was excellent.

I think if sites have a fixed price for EHU (on top of the pitch price) then they will always err on the side of of caution and charge more rather than less to cover their arses.
The site mentioned at the start of this thread we have also stopped on with our big motorhome and it does go through wayy more lecky than our vdub so I could see £5 a night not being far off for some units.

Sites that price everything individually normally work out damn expensive in our experience .... price per person, plus ehu, plus awning, plus dog etc etc
