Help!

We want to buy a T6 Kombi so my husband can use it for a short (10 minute) commute to work but primarily because when we go camping we can fit our large tent and everything else in the van.

I have been on the VW website for so long looking at the different options. I think I definitely want a SWB (so I can park it easily) and the basic Startline trim and I'm not bothered about the colour or tyres, but I don't have a clue which engine to get, which roof height to get, what Blue Motion or why some people end up remapping (what is this?).

If only there was a simple answer !
Roof height and engine output are personal preference, I would recommend you test drive a van and see what you think, I would think the lowest output van would be a bit gutless for long trips loaded up with camping kit and the highest output would probably be a bit much for your needs (and a lot more expensive) so prob worth trying out the middle engine outputs 102 and 150 ps
Remapping is the process of getting the van engine 'reprogrammed' for more power but this invalidates the warranty on your engine so it's not for everyone
Blue motion is VWs term for there economy systems on vehicles, all T6s are/have blue motion technology which is things like auto engine stop/start, low rolling resistance tyres, regenerative braking system etc etc
To confuse the issue VW have now started advertising a specific blue motion model on there website, not sure exactly how or if this is different from standard vans with the blue motion badge ??

Any more questions feel free to ask we will talk about vans all day :)

It's just that there are different options for 102 and 150 ps?

I've got a 102 Bluemotion and he does a great job for long motorway commutes. Pulls well if I need to accelerate and sits nicely at motorway speeds. Decent mpg as well (43ish) if that helps. I've only had it for a few weeks though so I probably still have a few blinkers on.

How did research which engine to buy? Thanks

Well I spent a lot of time on google and forums trying to work out what issues people were having and poring over all the info.. in the end I just went to the VW van centre and looked through all the second hand vans in my price range (and a few above for comparison) had a test drive and settled for this.

From what I can gather the 102 is a fairly standard unit for camper conversions. I would have liked a 6 speed but I don't miss it in all honesty.
Van life has slowed me down so I'm quite happy to put cruise control on at 60-65 and tootle through. This is my first VW though so my experience is very limited. In my opinion most modern engines are pretty good provided you don't rag it, you service it in line with the log book (I tend to do something summer and winter on most of my previous vehicles)

Good luck with the search. :)

10 minute commute? The euro 6 diesel will love that. Wait until the new model year is announced and go for a petrol model...i have heard rumours from 2 different and trusted sources.
If you can't wait, then 84ps and get it mapped by Pendle to a decent output.

Oh ye I missed your commute time. Mine's more like 40 miles each way. I do like the look of the caddys I've been passing.
