Help me spec an ICE

I have a high line spec van to be converted to a full camper soon.

I want to use the standard vw headunit with my spotify or deezer accout from my phone. Ill keep the standard front speakers for to keep costs down. I want speakers in the rear and a reasonable sound for driving and camping Not overly loud or too much bass that it alters your breathing frequency. So I think I need a small amp and a little bass sub somewhere discreet. I'd like the whole lot powered from the leisure battery when were are parked up.
What do people suggests?

Not essential but if easy to achieve without any latency if we wanted to watch a down load film off my tablet could we play the audio through the vans system?

It's surprising how much current an amp uses, even a small one. I ran my sub and head unit off my leisure battery in my old van and ended up with a flat battery a couple of times. This time I've decided no camping music through the van system. I've brought a Bose mini Bluetooth speaker instead. I can take it outside the van or inside, phone for music and tablet for films and tv. The sound is really good and I can charge it loads of times off the leisure battery with no noticeable drop in the leisure battery charge.

If you intend to keep the front speakers, and don’t want it too basey then why add a sub? All you’ll get are strong base frequencies that will drown out the pathetic output from the OEM mid range and tweeter, as the inbuilt sub bypass frequency control on the amp will strip everything else out and therefore only deliver amplified bass frequencies.
One of the best people to discuss this with is Absolute Audio (aka @Absolut5)

The front speakers are good, the low end response is actually better that a lot of other vehicles.

I have just put in the rear of mine some JL audio coaxial speakers c2 650x sound really good of the discover media head unit

I don't know if I want a sub I'm trying to work it out. The reason lots of car stereo sound naff is due to lack of bass. They are often very mid range and tinny sounding. I thought fitting a small sub in a bigger space of a van would give some nice depth to the sound.
I don't want too much bass but I suspect for a generally better sound than stock I'd need a bit of bass to fill out the space more. If this can be gained by better speakers rather than a sub I may follow this route.

I'm having a solar panel fitted yo help reduce the battery drain issues. Taking the blue tooth speaker is a good idea when outside though. I have an ultimate ears roll. Highly recommended.

However good it sounds when parked bass will disappear when on the move. I have a modified ICE system but am still looking at a sub solution to fill out the lower end (without giving thumping bass).

A car or van is also not a great acoustic “box.”

The BM has the mid range upgraded system (subs, extra speakers, amp) and it sounds good. Theirs a more expensive HK system but it sounds too artificial; sometimes less is more.

I did think you meant that. My other car us a 3 series with the HK system. I like it. It resolve the sound nicely and you can hear very clearly the different instruments which is good but also its downside ....as sometime things sound a bit synthetic and unconnected. Its great for somethings not for others. Everything is a compromised.

That’s what I wasn’t keen on; I prefer less watts but a purer sound; HK definitely sounded too synthesised to me but as you say, it depends on the music. Also heard several tales of the HK system needing “running in” which is a bit odd.

Anyway happy with Advanced in the M135i; the engine makes nice noises too which is useful.

A cracking buy was a B&O Beolit 15 BT speaker we use almost as a hifi replacement in the house and while camping; 240 Watts (I don’t think it’s quite that powerful but that’s the factory figure), superb battery life and cracking sound.

Well worth a look; it’s been upgraded now too.

Yes engine noise would be nice to hear and you don't really get that on 335d. Well you do but it's also been synthesized but better than they used to be. It does sound better that my T6 though....

I loved our E91 335d; sooo rapid, reliable and comfortable! Presume you have the F30? Super quick. They sound quite good IMO; proper purposeful rumble.

F31 estate. 335d xdrive. Yes its very quick comfortable reasooanle running costs once you've bought it, and doesnt sound bad for a diesel family estate rocket ship. It's car that seems to do most things very well.

Yep I found ours a great all rounder; it was also one of few models with full hydraulic (not electric) assisted steering (335i, 335d and M3 only) so it had lovely meaty steering and feedback; something the current range lacks. Oh and that torque through that rears only was fun!
But I yearned for Petrol, a better gearbox (the old 6 speed was sluggish to shift) and a bit more “chuck ability” which the wee M-lite has.

All good though; BMW sixes are just lovely Diesel or Petrol.

We added a JL 3 channel amp to the standard speakers, and to a 10” sub under one of the front seats... and ran a set of coax speakers off the headunit in the rear

Standard Front speakers are not the worse by far out there... so it sound really good and saved the owner quite a bit of money

Thanks. What would you charge for this?
